Differences are inconsequential; only love matters. Another milestone reached and Esme feels her age. No amount of anti-aging serum can cover that. But mostly, she feels alone. Two businesses, a son and a former mother in law don’t seem to alleviate it. A decade without someone in her life is taking its toll. Though she has secret liaisons a few times a year, she can’t tell anyone about. That would be far too problematic. Esme’s starting to give up hope that there’s someone for her, somewhere. Leon believes his new home will be a fresh start for him and his five-year-old daughter, Mali. A young single father trying to juggle being a mum, and a dad is hard work. All he wants is another child so Mali won’t be alone, very much like how he feels since they were abandoned by her mother. Esme and Leon are poles apart, but the next door neighbours strike up an odd friendship. When they start to have feelings for each other, one of them decides the other isn’t what they want, with the possibility of scuppering both their chances of happiness Can Esme find a man to love her and is Leon willing to let the bitter taste from a past relationship enable him to move on? A funny romantic story about coming to terms with day to day prejudices and finding love.

And she’s struggling with getting older and being alone. She has her son, who she loves dearly and who loves her dearly. And she has her ex-mother-in-law who loves her too. Her ex-husband…he’s a whole different story. We meet Leon on the same day. He’s just moved next door to Esme with his 5yo daughter Mali. Leon is wounded still deeply by Mali’s mother and isn’t in any position to get involved with anyone, though he’s mother is convinced that a good Jewish girl would make the world right. But Leon and Esme are very attracted to one another. However, there is a few years between them….15 to be exact. And neither of them try to bridge that gap. Until one day, they just do. And in the middle of them finding themselves and each other, all kinds breaks loose for both families, mainly involving their exes. And when the proverbial poo hits the fan it HITS.THE.FAN! And neither of them are confident enough in themselves or in their ability to BE loved, and this really rocks their world.I won’t go further into the book because really if I got started on one part, I’d end up writing a novel about the novel. I will say that I LOVED Steph. I love that old woman! HAHAH! I loved Afie too. Oh my, but apparently EVERYONE loved Alfie or wanted to! I really liked Stan too. He was the perfect man for Barbara. Oh and Tracy. Just cuz…my name yanno…. Of course I didn’t like the usual suspects Ralph, Oscar, Melanie, and Bennylita. They could all take a golf cart over a ravine.S.M. Mala’s book tackles prejudices in many forms. There’s the prejudice against skin colour, and age, as well as homosexuality. I think that it’s all handled truthfully and honestly. You’re going to get a lot of different reactions and variations of the same hate, and you’re going to react accordingly. And these characters do just that. It isn’t all fun and roses and strawberry lemonade. And a lot of times, it comes from those in our very own families. So would I recommend...(https://textuallove.wordpress.com/201...) At first that threw me a bit, but I quickly got used to the differences. Tracy Vin's review gives a good overview of what the book is about. I gave this book 3 stars because I was, at times, so over Leon being so thick headed and Emse so forgiving. Was a reasonably good read.
