I have cooked several recipes since I got this cookbook." —Betty Ann Besa Quirino, Asian in America Magazine"In Nongkran Daks's books, difficult recipes become easy enough for a novice. Recently, I made one of the recipes you'll find in Nong's Thai Kitchen. Once I had the ingredients in hand, I was able to prepare a delicious dish in five minutes. So I salute the author." —Charas Srisutham, Thai Airways International"I had the joy of cooking with Nongkran and trying my hand at her Pad Thai recipe. You'll never want to order it from your local restaurant again. What makes the dish is her sauce which was a spicy sweet glaze that coated every noodle. I've now cooked Nongkran's Pad Thai a few times for both friends and family." —Samantha Brown, host of several Travel Channel shows including: Girl Meets Hawaii, Passport to Europe, Passport to China, Great Weekends and Samantha Brown's Asia"Nongkran Daks was born to be a chef, and has been uncompromising in her standards for using fresh, top quality ingredients to create bright, authentic flavors served in her restaurant, Thai Basil, in the Washington, D.C area. … The secret for her success is the fresh ingredients and her masterful blending of Thai herbs and spices. By Hello Happy I love how the American melting pot keeps embracing more and more countries’ cuisines as our tastes and palates expand. I was looking to add some Thai foods to our household menu, and luckily discovered Nong’s Thai Kitchen. I love Food Network and the Travel Channel’s cooking segments, and I remember seeing chef Nongkran Daks throwdown with Bobby Flay, beating him with her stellar Pad Thai, and also teaching Samantha Brown how to cook Thai foods herself, too. Nong covers all the basics of popular and authentic Thai dining, including Green Papaya Salad and her winning Pad Thai from her famous Thai Basil restaurant.I’ve tried many of the dishes here, from the simple — like the satisfying Fried Rice with Pineapple, Ham, and Raisins — to the sublime, like the sweet and sour subtleties of her Pineapple Curry with Shrimp. Overall, the recipes seem complete, and easily made — provided you have access, online or off, to some of the more exotic ingredients (lemongrass, shrimp paste, kaffir lime leaves, etc). I think this cookbook is a pretty comprehensive Thai cookbook, kind of like the Betty Crocker of Thailand, which seems entirely appropriate, coming from one of the cuisine’s foremost ambassadors.

The flavors of the dishes in this book are rich and authentic. I particularly love the noodles and dessert recipes. Have been trying to make a good padThai on several occasions using different recipes, but it always failed to satisfy considering the popularity of the dish .Thanks to this book, the first time my boyfriend thought pad Thai was good. The author did the job of honoring Thai cuisine.

It can be hard to find many of the ingredients at a smaller city, even one with a large by percentage Asian population. Nongkran does a great job explaining what many of the ingredients are and some substitutes.
