4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. "Once, long ago, Oz saw snow that looked like shining gold." No spoilers. By Leaf Yen Press, THANK YOU!!!!If you have never read Pandora Hearts the manga, you should do so right away. Premise: Oz is cast into the Abyss, a prison the worst of the worst are sent to with no way to escape. And Oz's crime is his very existence. Unraveling the mystery of his fate, why he was cast down, who the girl named Alice he made a contract with is, and discovering the darkness in the cast of characters are just some of the many things that make Pandora Hearts a gem. Some say the story is too complex to grasp-and it's simply because it doesn't spoon feed you answers. Imagine Madoka Magica mixed with Baccano and D Gray Man. That's essentially Pandora Hearts, except written better, with gorgeous art, and tragic characters. There are hints of romance, there's betrayal, there's death, and there are so many lies. And I sincerely hope you check out this gem. If you do, give it at the least 3 volumes. The light novel was something I never thought would arrive in English. Soft paperback, the same height as a manga, and filled with snippets of manga drawn by the mangaka and colored pages in the beginning, this light novel is a treat. We get to look into some of the Four Great Dukedoms of the world: Vessalius, Nightray, Rainsworth and Barmas. If you don't know anything about Pandora Hearts, you will be confused, even if you study up on it before reading. This is for fans of the manga (and the anime, though I absolutely do not recommend that since so much was cut) and if you have ever wondered about the series, please do yourself a favor and start reading it. It truly is a series that will hook you once you are pulled in. Just make sure not to look up the series online too much-so many spoilers abound.Like most light novels, the writing is simple, short and choppy. However, I found that this one seemed to have more detail regarding the surroundings the characters were in, unlike most light novels. If you're used to reading YA, or any other kind of book, light novels will seem very stilted and weird at first. It takes time to get used to this new style of writing, but it's definitely worth taking the time to read one. I can't delve into spoilers of the four little stories we get, since that would defeat the point of this review: to get you, who have not read the manga, to do so. And if you have, then you are in for a treat! The stories: Golden Drops, Black Widow, White Kitty, and Pink Curse. There are 225 pages including the manga shorts and illustrations. The back has ads for manga and some of Yen On's popular light novels.

For fans of The Giver, a futuristic thriller with a diverse cast.

In Thalia's world, there is no more food and no need for food, as everyone takes medication to ward off hunger. Her parents both work for the company that developed the drugs society consumes to quell any food cravings, and they live a life of privilege as a result. When Thalia meets a boy who is part of an underground movement to bring food back, she realizes that there is an entire world outside her own. She also starts to feel hunger, and so does the boy. Are the meds no longer working?

Together, they set out to find the only thing that will quell their hunger: real food. It's a journey that will change everything Thalia thought she knew. But can a "privy" like her ever truly be part of a revolution?

Hungry, by H. A. Swain

From School Library Journal Gr 9 Up—Swain's near-futuristic dystopia explodes onto this well-trod genre with a fresh idea, tense plotting, and relatable characters. Earth's resources, ostensibly decimated by wars and superstorms, have vanished, along with any flora and fauna. Mega-corporation One World swoops in to salvage the remaining humans from starvation by altering their DNA so that they no longer experience any pesky hunger pangs. One World also supplies all nutrition through a formulalike substance called Synthamil. In this world in which any type of food is illegal, Thalia, 17, begins to suffer unexplainable spasms in her abdomen. Instead of being shipped off to a "specialist" to eradicate her natural hunger pangs, as was wont to happen, she seeks out the truth behind the hunger and One World's monopoly on food. She teams up with a non-"privy," Basil, who leads her further into the resistance movement than she would have thought possible. Thalia is faced with a decision—do the easy thing or do the right thing, all while battling her genetic "mutation" that makes her mouth water and her stomach growl. From the Inner Loops to the Outer, to the Hinterlands and beyond, Thalia's journey is fast-paced, scientifically plausible, and scarily possible. The mood is tense, curious—but never relaxed. Swain completes a unique tour de force with Hungry, one that requires readers to examine current society, their place within invisible and sometimes all-too-visible hierarchies, and the consequences of genetic engineering. Fans of Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale (McClelland and Stewart, 1985) and Lois Lowry's The Giver (Houghton Harcourt, 1993) will flock to this story—Amanda C. Buschmann, Atascocita Middle School, Humble, TX

From Booklist With a combination of synthetic nutrition and hormone-controlling inoculations that stop the body’s hunger response, science has eradicated the need for food in Swain’s crowded but compelling dystopia. Thalia Apple, 17, is the daughter of influential scientists working for One World, the corporation that developed Synthamil, ended global starvation, and gained total market dominance. Thalia rebels in small ways, like joining the hacker group Dynasaurs to sabotage One World’s pervasive cyber marketing, but she doesn’t truly question the system until she has a reason: she gets hungry. This shameful sensation of a growling stomach and gnawing emptiness leads her to another underground group, where she meets Basil, who shows her what it’s like to be poor and dependent on a profit-driven corporation for nourishment. With solid, transparent writing and timely social commentary, this wild premise works quite well. Though Thalia and Basil follow a predictable arc toward romance and revolution, the privatization of government functions, especially medicine and pharmaceuticals, is a pivotal issue, and Swain semiplausibly imagines the implications. Grades 7-10. --Krista Hutley

It is a dystopian, and in some ways it is set up very similar to your typical YA dystopian. A power hungry government that demands complete control over it's citizens, while holding onto tons of secrets of their own. But in other ways, Hungry felt very different. The descriptions of the world captivated me. H.A. Swain immerses you in a world in the not so distant future that is so utterly different than the one that we know. There are still some grandparents and parents that were around when the world started running out of food. That is how quick of a timeline we are talking about.I was confused about some of the background information, and a couple of logistics, like the whole oxygen issue if there were no plants and fauna around, but H.A. Swain quickly sweeps you into her crazy new world and you are lost in the detail and story line. I was so wrapped up in the story that I didn't even think of those questions again until long after I had finished the book.Thalia is the main character, and from what I can tell her generation is the first generation born into this world of synthetic food drinks that supply you with all the nutrients you need and also make it so that you never feel hungry. I have to admit, that the technology aspect of this world completely fascinated me. The cars, the personal gizmos that everyone had, the social centers, all of it seemed so freakin' cool! I want a personal assistant gizmo and I don't care if that makes me weird that I want something from this creepy society. Another thing that H.A. Swain did that I thought was brilliant was working social media and youtube esque channels into society. The job that you would get out of school was based on what kinds of popularity your personal reality video channel was getting. The more popular channels would get more product placement and sponsors which would mean more profit for the government. The social aspect of Hungry kind of reminded me The Lego Movie (which is excellent by the way.) It was very in the vein of Ayn Rand, with their whole big business (president business) and "profit is good" motif. I loved those undertones in the story.Thalia is a great heroine. She is a little wacky and marches to the beat of her own drum, but she will not stop asking questions until she is satisfied with the answers. She is a free thinker and that alone made me love her. This became especially apparent when Hungry took a huge surprise turn and we stumbled upon the second/new society. I was not expecting that at all, and it was even creepier than the city! H.A. Swain really impressed me with the thought she put into her story. The detail and world building was beyond fantastic and the plot was very original. You kind of get two dystopian societies/governments in one with Hungry and I want more stories set in this world! (a prequel, a companion, anything!)*Disclaimer- I got a copy of this book for free in exchange for my honest review. I was not compensated for my thoughts.

Great concept and captivating plot line By Evie Seo Hungry, though set in a not-so-distant future, offers a futuristic, semi-dystopian vision unlike anything I've seen before. From all the super advanced technology (like Gizmos, Holograms or HoverCams), to the many changes in humans themselves (eating habits, bodily functions, interpersonal relationships, etc...), it's a world so completely different from ours, it's at times overwhelming."Remember our motto," says Yaz in a mock serious voice, "One World, One Big Human Family." The action of Hungry unfolds in a near future, and at times it's really hard to comprehend exactly how did things turn so bad so quickly. From what I gather, humanity managed to destroy the world almost completely. There are no animals left on Earth, no green plants, and no real freedom to do as you please either. There's no food, nor is there hunger for food or desire to enjoy food. Everything and everyone is constantly monitored - from your vitals and metabolism to your whereabouts. Even to have a child you need to enter something called Procreation Pool and get a match. There's no falling in love without Arousal added to your Synhamil, no meeting people at random. Everything is controlled by One World. Sounds scary? Oh, yes! I thought Heather Swain did a really good job with the world building. While there are some plot holes in the book (How could people give up their freedom so easily? Did they not try to put up a fight? How did things change so drastically just over two generations? How are they functioning with the Sun being obscured and fauna and flora completely wiped out? What about oxygen? There are literally tons of questions that come to mind as you read), the world itself is interesting enough to get you hooked and flipping the pages. Swain included enough detail to make the entire set up believable enough for the reader to get invested in the story. And, considering this is the first book in a planned series, there's still plenty of time to further flesh out the world and polish all the details. The worldbuilding is not seamless for sure, but it's far from being completely ridiculous either. And the idea of living in a world without food, as far fetched as it may sound, really works out great. I was skeptical about some world elements, yes, but at the same time I could not stop reading. And I'm definitely interested to find out what happens next. While I really enjoyed Swain's captivating, fast-paced writing style and the complexity of the world building, I can't say the same thing about the relationships in this book. Aside from one - between Thalia and her grandmother - I did not like any of them. Thalia's relationship with her mother is... weird. To say the least. Her mom is a scientist. And not just any scientist either, she is THE scientist. The one who helped refine the inocs and essentially got rid of hunger. The one who invented Synthamil, a nutritional beverage that keeps people from starving. That being said, Thalia's mom is kind of a control freak. A cold and heartless control freak, to be more precise. To the point that when Thalia admits to experiencing hunger, her mom gets her locked up in rehab. They both keep secrets from one another and generally don't get along well. ("Like I have to agree with everything she says just because she was instrumental in saving humanity.") I found their relationship rather sad. The insta-love between Thalia and Basil, however, is even worse. They get into fights often, quarrelling over just about anything. They go from completely in love and unable to live without one another to "I can't believe I liked this guy" in a matter of mere seconds. Now, I understand that these are teenagers we're talking about, and this is how most teenagers roll. Hot-hearted, passionate and acting on hormones rather than stopping to think for a second. And I think that Swain really did manage to capture the craziness of teenage love, I guess I just wished for more maturity and less irresponsibility in their actions. Instead, their relationship came off rather unhealthy, and I don't think that was the intention here. All things considered, Hungry is a captivating and thought-provoking story set in a fascinating world. A dystopian unlike anything else out there, filled with futuristic gadgets, innovative ideas and scary secrets. Tense and action-packed, it's a very entertaining tale with plenty potential for growth. And, come to think of it, it's kind of a magical story too, in that it really makes you look around and appreciate all the small things in your life that you'd usually take for granted - chocolate cake, grandma's hugs, meeting random people who turn out to be your best friends. I'm really looking forward to seeing where the author will take us next.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Intriguing futuristic world with teen love By Anya @ On Starships and Dragonwings Hungry by H. A. Swain is a chilling portrayal of what our future could be if our society continues down its current trajectory as well as a coming-of-age story about a girl named Thalia when she realizes her world is much different than she thought. I have to admit that there are days when I wish I could just chug my Synthamil and not have to plan what meals to cook for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but a world without chocolate is obviously unacceptable! Hungry is a refreshing combination of believable future technologies, friend and family relationships that actually make sense, and a dystopian society that gets back to the grittier roots of the genre. There is of course also the adorable but forbidden romance, but since Hungry is a standalone you don’t have to worry about love triangle developing ;-).Note: I received Hungry from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Some things may have changed in the final version.Hungry by H. A. SwainPublished by Feiwel & Friends on June 3rd, 2014Genres: Dystopia, YALength: 384 pagesHow I got my copy: PublisherIn the future, food is no longer necessary—until Thalia begins to feel something unfamiliar and uncomfortable. She’s hungry. In Thalia’s world, there is no need for food—everyone takes medication (or “inocs”) to ward off hunger. It should mean there is no more famine, no more obesity, no more food-related illnesses, and no more war. At least that's what her parents, who work for the company that developed the inocs, say. But when Thalia meets a boy who is part of an underground movement to bring food back, she realizes that most people live a life much different from hers. Worse, Thalia is starting to feel hunger, and so is he—the inocs aren’t working. Together they set out to find the only thing that will quell their hunger: real food.Strengths:The premise of Hungry is hauntingly believable. We’re already trying to synthesize and prepackage food as much as we can, so it isn’t hard to imagine a world where you just drink your perfectly calibrated nutritional beverage in the morning and at night. Add to that the idea of a world where we can’t produce enough actual food to support the population, and you end up in the scary but very believable world of Hungry. As a computer science nerd, I can’t help but evaluate what technological gadgets are included in futuristic settings, but Hungry is spot on in the technology the future could have. Self-driving cars? Handheld gadgets that make recommendations on who you would want to befriend and what new attraction you’ll enjoy? People so completely immersed in their virtual worlds that physical contact is now frowned upon? Not too hard to believe right??Thalia made for a solid main character. She definitely felt like a teenager, but that is both because she is rather offended when the world isn’t how she thought it was and because she grows quickly and passionately throughout Hungry. She starts as an adorable nerd who just likes to hack into systems and bother the status quo, but has to change quickly as her world shifts. I liked who she was at the start and I loved who she was by the end of Hungry.I’m really enjoying this trend of parents and extended family playing a larger role in young adult stories. Thalia is best friends with her grandmother and her dad as soon as Hungry starts. She has a typically rocky relationship with her mother, but the bonds with her family continue to play a major role throughout Hungry; so good to see!Hungry is a standalone! I was a little nervous about how it was going to wrap everything up as I got to the end, but it manages to end at a very satisfying point and tells a complete story without falling to the temptation of dragging things out into multiple books.Weaknesses:I can’t help being overly critical of science in sci-fi books, so this isn’t something that will bother most of you I’m sure. For the most part, Hungry handles the science of how people could be genetically engineered to no longer feel Hunger, but that just made the few mistakes regarding how mutations work stand out more to me.Thalia and Basil are pretty cute most of the time, but they start to get annoying at various points when their whole “from different worlds” tension gets brought up over and over again. A lot of the plot gets moved along because one of them does something foolish and the other goes along to try to help diffuse the situation….Hungry is a bit strange because there are no chapters (at least not in the ARC, if this gets changed I’ll update!). It is broken up into four parts, but if you are one of those readers who has to stop at chapter breaks, you might be in for a late night.Summary:Hungry by H. A. Swain is an excellent futuristic sci-fi and a breath of fresh air in the YA dystopian trend. It incorporates a lot of the more classic sci-fi elements since it backs up the premise with believable science and technology, while still being exceedingly readable with a cute romance for YA fans. There will always be a part of me that wants a sequel of every good book in order to find out more about the world, but Hungry tells an excellent story as a standalone. I definitely recommend Hungry for fans of YA that loved the dystopian trend but got sick of the tropes!

By Lori Caswell/Dollycas Dollycas’s ThoughtsMost of the books I read are series books were there is an underlying story-line or theme that plays throughout the series and has a mystery or two played out within each book. This book contains the first three episodes (like a television series) of a series set in the non-distant future. A future that is getting closer every day. Life hinges on how the world uses new technology that replaces common things like out cell phones and televisions. Picture Apple’s new smart watch or a smarter television that knows your entire life, from the food you like to your blood type, what you said to your kids this morning to who visited your house. Technology that leaves what the NSA has on us to shame. What happens when all the information falls into the wrong hands. Hands that want to control the world’s destiny. All I could say when I finished Episode 3 was “wow, Wow, WOW!” Get me Episode 4! It is out and is calling to me! These stories are quite addicting. I found once I started reading I couldn’t stop. At first I was cursing Laura Fitzgerald and then I was thinking this is pretty genius. This type of story is going to interest everyone from teenagers to senior citizens. With the content it gives us some things some of us may see if our lifetimes and for the older folks it was something they have been predicting for years. With this format some may wait until all the episodes are released and binge read like they binge watch television series on Netflix and others will grab each exciting episode as it comes out and wait with wondrous anticipation for the next installment. Some may think this book is too Sci-Fi, which I rarely read, and I am here to tell you it is not. This is close enough to current time that is reads like a suspense thriller. Written is the episodic format the suspense continues to build and build and build. I truly am looking forward to each and every new release because I quickly became engaged and Kendra is an leading character that should grab everyone’s attention.I was given the first 3 episodes bundled together for review and they can be purchased that way. If you are not sure if this story is for you but you want to check it out the episodes can all be purchased separately and the first episode is just 99 cents. This is totally different than anything else I have written by this author. She has me completely hooked. She releases the episodes almost as soon as they are finished. She is going to have readers begging her to write faster.

Heart-pounding, episodic story of suspense By KATHLEEN IRENE PATERKA Fans of author Laura Fitzgerald will find themselves 'lost' in this book, and unable to put it down. While a different type of genre than Fitzgerald's other novels, LOST IN AMERICA is an engrossing, heart-pounding, episodic story of suspense that tackles an issue which could very well be facing all of us in the not-too-distant future: voluntary surrender of our rights to privacy which results in the use of 'killer' technology used against us. LOST IN AMERICA is an on-going series being written in real-time, Fitzgerald has definitely captured my interest. On to buy and read Book Four...

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A good read, so far By Daniel Anderson Laura Fitzgerald is a good storyteller. Lost in America is set in a near-future America I can easily relate to, with characters I can easily connect with. 18-year-old Laura, the narrator, survives a car crash that kills her boyfriend, to discover upon waking from a coma that she's been saying things that attract the attention not only of the hospital staff but of the police as well. As a reward for her mysterious comatose information, she even receives the latest model of the butler, a personal assistance device on the order of a smart watch. Butlers, though, know everything about their owners, and help out with everything from wardrobe choices to information about other people. There's a darker side to a butler, too, in its mysterious connection somehow to an as-yet unnamed bad guy and his imminent plans for a move-over-Pol Pot-I'll-show-you-a-real-genocide genocide. Laura stands in his way, and must flee. Which she does at the end of Episode 3, intending to get lost in America. Hence the title, of course. So far, so good Laura Fitzgerald. Review Reviewed By Lit Amri for Readers' Favorite"The flawless, straightforward prose narrated in a first person point of view creates a highly engrossing story. Therefore, it is no surprise that every page is engaging. Running features a fascinating cast, particularly Kate. She is a fine protagonist; a strong-willed yet sensitive teen courageously trying to make sure both she and her brother survive their harsh life. The chapters are short which paves way for a very swift read..."

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Enticing, enchanting By Solo Traveling Ninja "Running" is the kind of book that I won't get sick of reading over and over again. A tastefully done fantasy slash supernatural slash thriller with a sense of reality that is full of surprises and unexpected scenes. Kate, her siblings and acquaintances are the kind of characters that readers won't help but feel a mixture of being sorry for and at the same time cheering them on to succeed at something - anything!Unfortunately some of the tragedies that they go through in the book is only too real and present in the real world. If the reader knows someone who has gone through either the loss of a parent(s), experienced the dog eat dog mentally of the streets as well as being familiar with the unusual yet strong bonds that form because of this sort of upbringing then they will feel both sympathy and compassion for these kids.Reader beware that you will experience some strong emotions through Bryce's use of descriptive language in exploring the thoughts and feelings of the characters. Feelings of betrayal, agony, heartbreak, distress, misery and desolation abound but also that of hope, love, encouragement, motivation and inspiration. It is a fulfilling story that will leave readers satisfied after a roller coaster of emotions. The ending was unexpected (for me) but at the same time, looking back, it is something that I should have thought about as it was a perfect fit to the rest of the story. As I mentioned in the beginning, this is the kind of work that I would have no qualms in reading over and over again.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Incredible By Gloria This is quite an incredible bookI read the entire thing in one sitting. I can honestly say I have never really read a book like it before. From the very beginning you are thrust into the sad and tragic life of Kate and her misfit companions. You see the dark sides, and the often contradictory sides, or the human psyche. This is not a fairy tale or a light hearted book. It is gritty and real and and difficult just like real life. The Red Riding Hood references are hard to ignore and the idea that this is a warped abstract of that tale is very intriguing.I though the prose was well written, the characters three dimensional and very easy to feel for and fall in love with. There is no fault I could find for this book. The plot itself keeps you frantically turning the pages. The short bursts of chapters keeps the momentum going. To say that there are twists in this book would be a complete understatement. I never once thought I had this book figured out and I was right, I didn't. I couldn't have. The ending was just as heart breaking and incredible as the beginning and the middle. I would recommend this short book to anyone and everyone. This is a dark, drab, and painful story, with some light there is no doubt. But the image of the bungalow in this book is very much a great description of the story. Dark, rotting, crumbling. Full of secrets and junk that needs clearing. Well down S.C. Bryce, well done.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. "Be prepared to experience intense heart pounding emotion!" 5/5 Stars By Holly Newhouse, Eternal Book Reviews "Be prepared to experience intense heart pounding emotion!" 5/5 Stars This was an amazing young adult book! It's the first of it's kind that this reviewer has ever read. It's definitely in a class of its own. Kate and her siblings are taken in and cared for by Mannis who growls a great deal but underneath he's a caring man doing the best he knows how to take care of the kids. The three orphans go through a series of misadventures. There are a lot of twists and turns, many that you don't even see coming until after it's happened. I will warn you that you won't figure it all out, won't put all of the pieces together until the very end - why everything played out the way it did in the book and that is pure genius on the part of the author! I never expected it and at the end had a huge Ah Hah! moment when all of the pieces finally came together and everything clicked into place. This book is magnificent, I just can't say that enough! It's well written and extremely intense and engaging to the point where you won't be able to put it down until you have read it to the very end. I began reading this book, being capture and drawn in from the first page and it kept its hold onto me until the end and what felt like only a few minutes had passed, I was shocked to see that in reality, three hours had passed! That does not happen to me very often. Now, onto the nitty gritty stuff. As I said, the book is well written by a master storyteller. I could visualize every character and every scene in the book without any issues at all. The whole book flowed quite nicely. Each character's background and how they came to be together, as well as the characters' development, plot and storyline were all masterfully crafted by Author SC Bryce. The scenes were logical in sequence. There was a sufficient amount of down time between intense scenes allowing for a build up to the next intense one. Every action can be clearly "seen" visually. The character dialogue was perfect allowing the reader to see what the characters were doing while speaking and were extremely realistic as were the scenes. Overall, this book was brilliantly done and written. I highly recommend this book not only to young adults but to adults as well who like a refreshing new read that is in a caliber all of it's own!Reviewed by Holly Newhouse for Eternal Book Reviews

I love it when a book brings you into the story and makes you feel like you are a part of it and that is exactly what this book has done for me. Can not wait for the next installment in this series!!!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Really great YA series By Ruth P. I love a good young adult novel. This author is starting out with themes that do appeal to young adults. She has a good storyline throughout her series. It's easy to follow each character.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Book Two is even better than Book One. By Vaunzilla I found the storyline and character development in ASH to be a far more satisfying read than OAKEN.Not that OAKEN was bad! Read my first review and you'll see.Luke is not nearly as frustrating and shallow in ASH. You see some soul and maturity.Autumn has also earned herself a backbone by the end. People pleasing was a real problem for her.Tiny glimpses into Avery's head are welcome too.All in all it had the feel of a grand quest and the ensemble cast was interesting and engaging. Can't wait for ALDER! :)

This time Dana gets tangled up in a murder when she receives an early morning emergency call from her best friend. Things heat up as she tries to prove Julia's innocence, figure out what her brother Rob is hiding, deal with work problems, & sort out her feelings & relationship with ex boyfriend Nick. With everything hitting at one time Dana fights to hold on to her sanity. From beginning to end I found I was kept on the edge of my seat!! I was pleased with the book & hope there will be more books in this series in the future.

There's a great mystery, romance, and great characters. What really blew me away though was how perfectly executed the final scene was. The author did an amazing job at showing several characters reacting to something. It was perfect. I can't recommend this book enough.

Book five in the Sin City Uniforms series

Can the kinky billionaire owner of the Dark Fantasy resort casino capture the heart of a muscled SWAT officer with a secret fetish?

SWAT Team Hostage Negotiator Steve wonders why he can’t stay away from the spoiled, rich Allistair, owner of Dark Fantasy Resort Casino. They have mutual kinks—ones Steve can’t find with other lovers—but there’s something else about the emotionally detached, beautiful man that calls to him.

Billionaire Allistair stays alone in his luxury penthouse apartment at the top of Dark Fantasy, terrified of the real world and of opening himself up to genuine emotions. He takes lover after lover, all of them allowing him to do whatever he wants to their bodies, in the hopes that they can scam something from him.

One night is all he ever shares with a plaything—he knows they only want the money and luxury he can offer them and nothing more. But the down to earth Steve is different. They share the same kinks and are explosive when together. But could the muscled law officer ever want more than the lust-filled encounters that have become such an addiction?

As they grow closer, they discover they also have to find a balance between Steve’s everyday world and Allistair’s entitled world before they can truly find an ever after. They also have to make sure Allistair stays safe. Filthy rich playboys are too tempting to those who seek the ultimate payday—and who aren’t afraid of hurting someone to get it.

The Sin City Uniforms series

Las Vegas is a special brand of crazy. Some say it’s the intense desert heat that triggers the madness. Others say it’s the promise of gambling riches or the lure of decadent pleasures.

Known the world over as Sin City, the party never ends, but neither does the threat to the public. The uniformed men who are charged with keeping the city and its inhabitants safe are unique to the challenge.

Firemen, police officers, SWAT, paramedics, CSI, military—they all band together to make sure the job gets done. Join them as they work hard, brave danger and love with a fierce abandon.

About Morticia Knight

Morticia Knight spends most of her nights writing about men loving men forever after.

If there happens to be some friendly bondage or floggings involved, she doesn’t begrudge her characters whatever their filthy little heart’s desire. Even though she’s been crafting her naughty tales for more years than she’d like to share – her adventures as a published author began in 2011.

Once upon a time she was the lead singer in an indie rock band that toured the West Coast and charted on U.S. college radio. She currently resides on the northern Oregon coast and when she’s not fantasizing about hot men she takes walks along the ocean and annoys the local Karaoke bar patrons.

Rundell of V's Reads Allistair Richmond is a trust fund brat who made good. he took his money and built an empire of companies, including the Dark Fantasy resort and casino in Las Vegas. He's had a solitary life, with parents who were mostly absentee and an elder brother, Quentin, who is more psycho than...well, psycho. Due to threats from unnamed persons, as well as Quentin, Allistair is mostly holed up in his penthouse suite. He has no problem finding one-nighters, but he's definitely down for a repeat performance with sexy bottom and police negotiator Officer Steve Ashwood.Steve's a regular guy, an army veteran and a proud wearer of women's lingerie. *swoon* Honestly, didn't know that manties would be a thing for me, but yeah. The genuine affection both Steve and Allistair have for women's lingerie was yummy. Steve likes to be dominated. Hard. He's super stressed in his role as a negotiator and craves punishment and rough love to clear his head when things go wrong. We had a few ints of Steve in HELD HOSTAGE, because he's Cole's long-time friend and frequent no-strings sexual partner. It was Steve who called an end to their hook-ups because what Allistair wants is anything but casual. There some interplay between Steve and Allistair, clashing over finances and the like. Steve is a proud man, and never wants to feel as if he is "bought"--he doesn't like gifts, cash or anything of the sort, and Allistair isn't used to dealing with people on an emotional level. All his previous partners have been after his money; Steve's a refreshing change. I liked how they worked this out, and spent a good bit of time setting boundaries. There is little conflict between them, most of the suspense comes from the specter of Quentin, and his vague threats to extort more money from his more successful younger brother.Expect some hostage scenes, and some quiet mornings, and some HOT lovin. Mmmmm. I always ask that the excerpts I receive for the blog are PG-13, and well, this one was a challenge. There's a lot of sexytimes, LOL! That said, there's a nice story, too, and it was great to see Brett and Cole again. While this is part of a series, it's probably fine to read it as a standalone. It's a super quick read, and sure to be enjoyed by folks who like it kinky.

She’s created a marvelous world and wonderful characters to fill it. When we met Steve in the last book ( Held Hostage) I was so hopeful that her next book would have him in it… and it does! We also get to meet billionaire and heartwarming Allistair. How can someone feel bad for someone so rich? Because money truly isn’t everything and it takes the trust, love, and loyalty of Steve to wake Allistair up inside. This is a kinky, suspenseful, happy, page turning addition to this wonderful series! I don’t know how many more Morticia has planned but I look forward to more!

One of my favourites of the series By Sinfully Steve is a hostage negotiator, used to high stress situations and trying to make the best of things if he can. He has had a couple of play dates with Allistair, the owner of the Dark Fantasy club. He actually wonders if the aloof Allistair could possibly be a vampire (he's not) because of his unemotional sexy elegance. But he also gets the idea that the man is incredibly lonely, and being rich also comes with problems of its own."People are constantly trying to **** me, scam me, hurt me or kidnap me. It's rather exhausting."Allistair is the poor little rich man who really stirred my heart strings. An older brother who hates him, a need to shut himself from people, which essentially translated into cutting himself off from life - he spent so much time worrying about what people wanted from him (with good reason, it turns out) that he virtually had no life at all. The trust building that Steve talked about was truly beautiful, and apparently exactly what Allistair needed. Their dinner, where Steve was in charge was truly lovely and a huge sign of how much Allistair was trying to fit in.If you have read some of the other books in this series, then you will notice that it runs along a similar timeline to the story between Cole (Steve's longtime friend and ****-buddy) and Brett, a hostage survivor. If this is the first book in this series that you have read you won't have any problems following the action - the books are just as wonderful as a standalone. The kinks that Allistair and Steve share are truly beautiful in that they are unique in some ways, and yet bordering BDSM in others. To me it wasn't the terminology or labelling of what they shared that was important, it was the way the two men met each other's needs beautifully. And the corset proved really useful towards the end. This was a beautiful book and one of my favorites in the series. I could relate to Allistair's concerns about the "outside" world, and yet when he tried it was so amazing. Steve's protectiveness and his ability to show Allistair the joys of things that could be had for free was priceless all in itself. This is definitely heading for my favorites file.Reviewed by Liza for Sinfully...Addicted To All Male Romance

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. The Angry Birds are back for more graphic novel fun By Wayne A McCoy The Angry Birds are back for more fun in 'Angry Birds Comics, Vol. 2: When Pigs Fly.' It's about as fun as the first one, and definitely good for younger readers who are fans of the game. This time around, there are mysterious green eggs, pigs on stilts, and of course, the titles flying pigs. The birds try out alternate nest materials (like stone or water) with some dismal results. There are weird shells, strange berry juice, and a broken sling shot. The pigs try to steal the eggs, and the birds always manage to stay one step ahead of them. It's cartoony violence like the game is. The pigs are pretty dim, and the birds are pretty silly. It's got a slapstick style found in cartoons, and the colors are bright. Once again, the bottom of the pages seem to have some sort of flip cartoon, but since I'm reviewing a digital copy, I can't make the pages flip fast enough. If you're buying a copy for kids, they might have more fun with a paper version so they can flip the pages and watch the birds fly into the pigs.I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Diamond Book Distributors, IDW Publishing, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this fun graphic novel.
