Stereotypes, sexuality, and destructive rumors collide in this smart YA novel for fans of Sara Zarr’s Story of a Girl, Siobhan Vivian’s The List, and E. Lockhart’s The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks.When Rebecca Rivers lands the lead in her school’s production of The Crucible, she gets to change roles in real life, too. She casts off her old reputation, grows close with her four rowdy cast-mates, and kisses the extremely handsome Charlie Lamb onstage. Even Mr. McFadden, the play’s critical director, can find no fault with Rebecca.Though “The Essential Five” vow never to date each other, Rebecca can’t help her feelings for Charlie, leaving her both conflicted and lovestruck. But the on and off-stage drama of the cast is eclipsed by a life-altering accusation that threatens to destroy everything…even if some of it is just make believe.

Like It Never Happened, by Emily Adrian

From School Library Journal Gr 9 Up—Beautiful and talented Rebecca Rivers is the star of her high school's theater department. She, along with four other thespians, who call themselves The Essential Five), take the stage and their roles very seriously. But being the star has a dark side. Many of her classmates think Rebecca is untouchable, a golden child who is somehow immune to critique from the demanding director. Then the protagonist and her leading man, the handsome and charismatic Charlie, begin dating. From the outside, her life seems to be something out of a fairy tale. But as Rebecca grows as an artist, she also matures in her relationships in the real world, and she realizes that performance isn't just actors on a stage. Intermingled with past trauma, a fraught home life—including a sister she hardly knows—a boyfriend who isn't always who he appears to be, and a disastrous false accusation, Rebecca's story is about complex interpersonal relations for which there are no easy answers. Readers are shown from the start that she is serious and thoughtful but a bit shortsighted. VERDICT This title will satisfy thinking readers, namely fans of E. Lockhart and of realistic teen fiction that invokes drama without melodrama.—Jennifer Miskec, Longwood University, Farmville, VA

Review * "Original and intriguing; a powerful debut."—Kirkus Reviews, starred review "Will satisfy thinking readers, namely fans of E. Lockhart and of realistic teen fiction that invokes drama without melodrama."—School Library Journal"What begins as a story of teen romance soon develops into much more...For readers who enjoyed E. Lockhart’s Dramarama and Raina Telgemeier’s Drama."—Booklist"Fans of contemporary novels with mysterious undercurrents, like E. Lockhart’s We Were Liars, or readers looking for something realistic with a little weight to it will find what they are looking for here."—VOYA"Balancing masterful comedic timing with a thoughtful presentation of controversial topics, first-time novelist Adrian’s writing brims with authenticity and compassion."—Publishers Weekly"[Emily Adrian's] slice of life high school story mimics the structure of a play, a young adult homage to the spectacle of the stage."—The National Post"Adrian writes with a light but perceptive touch, favouring realism over melodrama and creating a comfortably compelling read worthy of comparisons to YA royalty Sarah Dessen and Sara Zarr."—The Globe and Mail"This novel makes an interesting study in rumors and reputation, as well as an ultimately positive portrayal of a conflicted but resilient and independent teen. It’ll be a lively read for theater folks, sure, but an even better one for those worried about their reputations."—BCCB

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. a good young adult read By Michelle@Book Briefs 3.5/5 starsLike it Never Happened is a young adult contemporary book set featuring a high school drama troupe. A group of five friends and the story of their high school years. I really enjoyed reading Like it Never Happened. It reminded me of 90s shows like Salute your Shorts and Clarissa Explains it all, though I am not really sure why. It is set in contemporary 2014/2015, but it really felt like a 90s throw back to me, and I totally loved that. Like it Never Happened is author Emily Adrian’s debut novel, which completely astounded me. She is an excellent writer, and she seemed so well practiced. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us readers next.Like it never happened follows a group of 5 best friends, and their trials and tribulations in the theater at their school. Right at the start of the book they make a pack to never date one another. But I knew that was going to change at some point. I was a little excited and a little disappointing all at once with the way things played out with Charlie. It was kind of bittersweet and all at once perfect (in a weird way.) My emotions ying yanged all over the place with this book. Emily Adrian did a fantastic job of capturing the essence of high school. I think that is why I had conflicting emotions. Even if something didn’t turn out the way I pictured it in my head, it felt so utterly real.I loved Rebecca so much. She was me in this book. I am nothing like her, but while I was reading Like it Never Happened I became her. It was pretty freakin’ cool. Charlie left me with mixed feelings. As did Tess a bit and Rebecca’s sister Mary. Like it Never Happened kind of reminded me of Never Always Sometimes by Adi Alsaid, but only a little bit. There are classically high school characters that are rich and each have very distinct personalities. And let’s not forget that they are all drama fanatics so there is a flair for the dramatic in Like it Never Happened, but this was such a great addition to the young adult genre. I really enjoyed Like it Never Happened.*Disclaimer- I got a copy of this book for free in exchange for my honest thoughts. I was not compensated for my review.

It reminded me a bit of Lauren Bjorkman's books in that it was set in the arena of theatre and with the same great writing but Ms. Adrian approach is more serious. The story is about the main character and narrator Rebecca entering high school and her experiences over the next 15 months which mainly focus on her 4 friends, all theatre people and called 'the essential five', as well as her older sister, previously wild and now settling down. What happens to Rebecca are (mostly) very normal things for someone as they enter adulthood, in this case; dealing with new friends, new romance, parents who seem out-of-touch, missing sibling. The observations of people, both teens and adults, interacting are sharp and subtle. I think that is one of the very many strengths of the writing - the teens act like teens, the adults like adults and Rebecca observes and interacts with both as a teen moving into adulthood.

I was like did Emily Arden read my teenage journals, no I’m totally kidding. I really enjoyed the book and for me it encompassed things that I have experienced so it was interesting. So this a group of theater kids and theater kids can be dramatic. When I was in High School my friend transferred to another school where she became a part of her own type of Essential Five. I was the token non-theater kid that would hang out with them periodically. They were fun and adventurous and often times very silly. I would hang out backstage and watch their plays. One of the guys passed away very young and I remember riding around in his truck that I can’t believe even worked. So this book found a soft spot in me pretty easily right off the bat. I felt like Emily easily captured the theater/art kid spirit and how it can be bonding and sometimes a little cut throat. You are all going for the star roles.I actually liked Rebecca, which I wasn’t sure if i was going to at first. She was so matter of fact and just who she was. I loved the confidence she exudes and the way she has her own mind. We find out some things that make you realize that she is not going to crack under pressure. She does have some growing up to do in the department of empathy. She does learn some things but still has growing up to do, she is only 16.At first I wasn’t so sure about the summer camp part but I realized as I kept reading how it had given definite input into Charlie. Rebecca too but mainly Charlie. The pieces of his personality just keep falling into place and normally I would be jealous of his relationship with Liane for Rebecca’s sake. I felt like she could do better and this is high school. There is so much time for so many greater things.I loved the way the book focused also on Rebecca and her relationship with her family. Her mother, father and sister. I have three older siblings, two of which are 10 & 12 years older than me (I know seriously I need to stop comparing this book to my own experiences but seriously!). My oldest brother was so similar to Rebecca’s sister! Except for one thing but it’s crazy. So I was so glad that we get to see how she had seen her sister when she was young and how her sister and her interact now. It was a mixture of how other people had wronged her sister but she had also wronged herself. A good example of how you see things in the moment and how you see things when you grow up.So the drama that happens later in the book, actually happened to a guy I know. So I felt like I was so angry for him all over again. Even when the truth came to light for him just like in the novel it changed him. I loved how Rebecca handles thing, even though she is the victim of rumors she is still confident and doesn’t let it break her. Which is a good quality to have as an actress.I really bonded with this book and maybe it was because there were multiple things that I was able to connect with life experiences, either I had or know people who have had. When I finished I felt like, that was a satisfying read. It’s hard for me to explain the writing type. It has that narrative that

Pure heat By heidi I was given this book in exchange for my honest opinion and a review.Mine to take is an extremely hot book so if the heat offends you then its definatly not the book for you but it for sure is for me :)The story is focused on two main characters Eric and his wife and how they keep their love life hot spicy and alive. as you can tell by the nature of the book the love scenes are well ..... way off the charts. I found that this story makes you remember all those emotions you have long forgot where there inside of you. The only thing i found was that wife's name is never really mentioned, but its not something you really dwell on it. Your to much in too reading all of there sexy exploits.4 Out Of 5 Hearts From Cariad Book

If you’re a tech savvy person then it's not a big problem to determine which of the television streaming sticks is the best choice for your personal needs. For people who aren’t so tech savvy, aren't sure of their needs, have no familiarity with these devices, it will be difficult to comparison shop for a TV streaming stick. This book lists 15 devices currently most like Chromecast, that can be used as an alternative to Chromecast. All of their functions and major specifications are included in the table. In our conclusion you will find the top 3 picks (in our opinion) to deliver all the Chromecast functionality along with the best pricing values. TV streaming sticks have become very common today. With the release of Chromecast from Google in 2013, almost every major tech company is trying to duplicate or exceed this new technology. Many companies are succeeding at this quest. Today you can buy a TV streaming and mirroring stick from many companies including Apple, Google and Amazon. Even though everyone is trying to release their own version of the Chromecast device, none of them are duplicates, it’s difficult to find the very best stick for you. Most of the mirroring devices are powerful and have a big price tag or they do not provide sufficient functionality to satisfy most consumers.

At times it reads like something that was written in a different language and put through a basic online translator. In addition, this book could also stand to have some fact checking done. At one point the author says most whiskey is bottled at barrel proof, then later he says it is only the better quality whiskies that are bottle at barrel proof.Tl;dr - if you are new to whiskey don't read this book as best case scenario you will be confused or have bad info.

From the history of whiskey to how it's made in different regions, to the differences on how they are aged. Certain countries specialize in making great whiskey and this book tells the differences. My favorite part is the list recipes for whiskey.

I fairly know a bit about Whiskey/Whisky, but I never new how much information I can get only from the label. That only few words will give you a bunch of information. Is it single barrel or malt or why is called Tennessee whiskey. Or the difference between scotch and Irish whiskey. Brilliant reading

When J.D. Dillon falls through the roof of the high school and lands next to Aine she is going to learn a lot about life and just what effect she can really have on others, including J.D., who turns out to be an orphan with a lot of horrific baggage from the past. I really enjoyed this book which is a life lesson in what we face in this world and maybe a lesson in how with a little christian charity we can change lives and make things better. The author did an amazing job with the characters in this novel and the book felt more like a real life look at relationships, religion and friendship. Great job by this author in a book that is not only intriguing but helpful by making readers think about how they would react in similar situations.

The Lincoln High Project Scores Big By Author Stephanie Parker McKean Raelee May Carpenter’s Christian Young Adult, “The Lincoln High Project,” scores a perfect five-star rating for its brilliant mix of interesting, believable characters and a story line that never falters or drags. When J.D. falls through the ceiling at Lincoln High during Aine O’Brien’s choir practice, he adds a new layer to Aine’s “Lincoln High Project.” Aine wants to change her school. Actually, she’s out to change the world – starting with her high school. It would be a daunting task for anyone and is even more so for Aine who doesn’t know where to start or how to go about it, and who is not included in the “most popular” set at school. She starts with J.D. who has been abused and whisked around to different foster homes his entire life. He has never seen a Christmas tree inside a house, has never received a Christmas gift, and can’t stand to either be touched or to touch anyone. Aine O’Brien’s project seems doomed for failure, especially when J.D. turns to drugs in an attempt to forget the nightmare of his past.Further complicating Annie’s life is a decision she must make about the speech she delivers for her junior class. Does she go along with the pre-approved “dream theme” speech the school administration expects – or does she toss her notes and tell the truth: that only God can power our dreams to success? J.D. challenges both her faith and her courage as he waits to hear her answer.A horrific accident changes the junior class at Lincoln High forever. Annie’s project fast tracks itself through the school resulting in extraordinary changes to Aine, her friends, and her classmates.Although “The Lincoln High Project” is in the young adult genre, it is faultlessly written and is an enjoyable read for adults too. Raelee May Carpenter keeps readers engaged and entertained through characters, dialogue, and action. The twist at the end stitches “The Lincoln High Project” into a truly sound, delightful reading experience. At times, this reviewer forgot her place in time and space and found herself walking the halls of high school again, eagerly joining Aine, J.D., and our other friends to achieve a permanent passing grade on “The Lincoln High Project.”

It is hard to strike the balance between being overly preachy and relatable, and most Christian YA authors cannot do that. However, it seems that Raelee May Carpenter has the ability to change my mind. I worried at first when I started in on it, but the story is well-written and touches on a lot of issues that I wish were discussed more openly. The character development is strong, and I am always fond of reading a story about how two people find each other. I really give it 4.5/5.

In Revelation 9 the Holy Spirit is giving us a detailed picture of our human condition as a result of the Fall and how evil spirit entities take advantage of this fallenness to try to achieve their own evil purposes. A spiritual interpretation is given for each verse wherein is revealed the working of God to bring believers into the full stature life of the Lord Jesus Christ. The demons merely serve His purposes to uproot us out of our complacency into a concerted effort to know God at all costs, even death to self…the only thing that brings total victory. This interpretation is inward and allegorical rather than outward and literal. Each entity in the chapter represents something within us. The bottomless pit, for example, represents our sin nature. The smoke that arises from it is our pride which blinds our eyes to spiritual things (sun and air). The locusts with power like scorpions are demons that are permitted to torment us according to our pride and wrong thinking. Out of our torment we are to seek and obey God such that when humility and truth come into our understanding, the demons will lose any rights to torment further and will have to flee. The author has divided Revelation 9 into four segments: Segment One - vs. 1-6: Spiritual Problems Common to All People Segment Two - vs. 7-11: The Characteristics of Demons Segment Three - vs. 12-15: Coming into Perfection Segment Four - vs. 16-21: The Spirit Realm Opens This book gives many examples from the author’s life and ministry that illustrate the truths revealed in each verse. Descriptions include how she and her church have learned together how to discern the enemy’s imposters that come into our lives and churches to wreak havoc. These deceivers are absolutely undetectable by the natural eye and understanding. Only by the spirit can they be discerned but there are many injunctions in God’s Word that Christians ignore that are actually there to protect us from the Devil and his deceivers. Jesus warned us that false prophets would come into our churches; however, rarely are any discerned because our level of spiritual discernment is so low. Even without our discernment they would not be able to bring damage if we only obeyed God’s warnings clearly stated in Scripture but mostly ignored. The physical descriptions of the locusts in Revelation 9 are actually descriptions of the functions of demons. In these verses we learn where they get their power, how they affect our thinking, how they travel from place to place, things they can and cannot do, how to recognize their activity and many more interesting details about them. This chapter is not limited, though, to merely exposing demonic activity; it reveals how our godly response to demonic torment ultimately brings us into full maturity in Jesus Christ. Old partial and imperfect beliefs are exposed and removed in the process of maturing so that believers can understand the full truths of God that could not be received until this time. (“For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.”) At this point God can open to these believers the entire spiritual realm where demons and also God’s angels operate. This will enable these full-stature Christians to minister into the church of the end times with power and authority unmatched since Jesus Christ walked on earth two thousand years ago thus greatly accelerating the maturing process of the church at large. The end of the book provides Bible study questions for those wanting to delve into Revelation 9 for their own study.

Enjoy a quick brew day and make Gose, Smoked Ale, Pennsylvania Swankey, Strawberry-Peppercorn Short Mead, Tart Blackberry Cider, Boozy Kombucha, Kefir Beer, Absinthola, Mauby, Tepache, and more!

Homebrew tastes great, it's inexpensive to make, and it's equally fun to brew old favorites and new recipes. There's only one thing stopping you from brewing your 1st or 101st batch: time. Whether it's your kids, your job, or a million other things, it can be hard to find a free brew day. Then there's the agonizing wait to crack that first cap.

But what if you could brew a session IPA in just a few hours? Or if you could brew a sour beer that's ready to drink in weeks instead of months? In Speed Brewing, author Mary Izett shows you how to make it happen. Whether you're a new or experienced brewer, you'll find time-saving techniques and recipes that save hours on brew day. You'll also find beers, ciders, and meads that pack big flavors but ferment quickly. Lesser-known fast fermentables--boozy kombucha, kefir beer, spirited sodas, and more--ensure there are plenty of exciting experiments for even the most creative brewer. Whether you decide to brew the Bia Hoi, Smoked Summer Ale, or Strawberry-Peppercorn Short Mead, weeknights will never be the same.

Speed Brewing: Techniques and Recipes for Fast-Fermenting Beers, Ciders, Meads, and More, by Mary Izett

Review

"When I first saw Mary's book, I must admit that it raised an eyebrow. What was this, some sort of strange joke? But one good look through, and I was hooked. Wherever you go in the world, from England to Vietnam to Africa, people have always brewed some delicious beers quickly-why not now? There are a lot of great ideas in these pages." - Garrett Oliver, brewmaster of the Brooklyn Brewery, editor-in-chief of The Oxford Companion to Beer, and author of The Brewmaster's Table

"I joke that if it can be fermented, I've fermented it. However, Mary's book shows that my experiments have fallen far short! She's presented so many fun, easy, interesting, and impressive ideas that I can't wait to try. Using her recipes for alternative brews turns every trip to the grocery into a research trip. Back to the fermenters I go!" - Drew Beechum, author of Experimental Homebrewing, The Everything Hard Cider Book, and The Everything Homebrewing Book

"Fermented beverages are as old and diverse as mankind, but in this age of high technology, it is easy to forget how accessible they can be. I have always been a dedicated homebrewer and craft beer drinker, but this book has convinced me to broaden my horizons and try something new. In fact, I have time right now..." - John Palmer, author of How To Brew

"The beers I enjoy most tend to be made by brewers who have entered into partnership with their favorite yeast strains. They are a product of confidence as much as equipment or scale. Speed Brewing is intended to inspire such confidence as quickly as the fermentations it describes." - Stan Hieronymus, author of For the Love of Hops and Brew Like a Monk

"This is a great book on fermenting a wide array of beverages. It is user-friendly, with straightforward methods and clear instructions. It's a valuable contribution to the growing literature of fermentation." - Sandor Ellix Katz, author of The Art of Fermentation and Wild Fermentation

"As the popularity of home brewing has increased, some brewers were bound to find themselves exploring beyond beer. Izett, who cohosts a radio show on fermenting,Fuhmentabudit!, realized that traditional brewing methods were not always possible and started looking for faster brews. She discovered quick meads, soda, and kefir, among others, and here takes readers through each project, beginning with discussions of ingredients and equipment through the process of bottling the final product. She provides basic recipes as well as variations on each brew. Throughout, the tone is encouraging of experimentation and the writing clear. Diving into this book gives the home brewer plenty of room to stretch their brewing experience. VERDICT A welcome introduction to the art of speed brews, these recipes will be a marvelous addition to any brewer's bookshelf." - Ginny Wolter, Library Journal

A recent experiment with a gallon of cider opened my eyes to the possibilities of "alternative" fermentation. I picked up this book hoping to find information on shortening my brew day, and my wait, for delicious new (to me) types of fermented beverages. Speed Brewing does not disappoint! It provides plenty of information on basic techniques for those who don't have a background in fermentation, but not too much to bog down the experienced brewer. The recipes are clear and concise, and the accompanying beverage pictures are truly mouthwatering. The book is easy to use, contains some fun facts about the respective beverages, but most importantly, leads you to produce some wonderful drinks. The Sima is crazy refreshing on a hot day! If you're looking to start brewing or expand your repertoire of delightful fermentables like cider, mead, or Sima, then Speed Brewing is a fantastic place to begin.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Fermenting on the Flip Side By Chris Mcnally I think this book works for both a new brewer and an experienced brewer. I've brewed beer for at least 5 years, but beer brewing can take a whole day of my time, lots equipment and a lot of equipment cleaning. In Speed Brewing, Izett documents all kinds of interesting brews, boozy sodas, ciders, wines, meads and beer, that can be fun, creative and quick. Her recipes include interesting ingredients, like spices and teas, fresh fruit and frozen fruit, alternative sugars, honey, apple cider, and juices. She encourages the reader to experiment. If you're new to brewing, all the basic information you need is in here. The first few chapter describe the fermentation process (primary fermentation) and bottling and carbonation (secondary fermentation). You need a hydrometer, kitchen thermometer, a one gallon fermenter, such as a jug or 1 gallon jar, a stopper and an airlock. And yeast nutrient. You can get all of those inexpensively at a homebrew store or online. Her suggestion that a new brewer use plastic PET bottles is good advice. PET bottles are like plastic soda or seltzer bottles. You can reuse your own or buy them new. Fermentation creates co2, and inside a bottle that means pressure builds inside. Glass bottles can explode which is dangerous. With PET bottles you just check them every day and when they are hard you have sufficient c02 and you then put them in the fridge to stop fermentation. No worries.I made the Rubarb Soda (3.5% ABV) first, adding strawberries. I only made one gallon, there was no one hour boil (just some off boil water poured over the fruit) so it only took me 30 minutes to make. The soda is pink, very pretty and delicious. I already started another batch. Next I made her City Cider recipe. Very simple with no boiling at all. It took 15 minutes. At bottling time, I decided to use some juices I had, Pomegranate and Guava juice as the priming sugars (sugars mixed in at bottling time to give the yeast just enough food to create carbonation in the bottle).I have a ginger short mead fermenting as well. After listening to her Fuhmentaboudit! podcast on kombucha, I was inspired to try that and I've made all kinds of 'buch with black teas, white teas, roibos tea, jasmine tea etc. Now having read the book, I will move onto her boozy 'buch recipes including a 'faux' Flanders Red that can be made in weeks rather than the year or more it takes in the traditional method. She also documents kettle souring, a good way to make a Berliner Weisse or a Gose beer. There is a short beer making chapter with recipes. This book inspired me to make other fermented drinks in addition to beer. The writing is clear, the descriptions of ingredients is detailed and the recipes are creative and internationally inspired. In addition, the techniques are quicker than standard beer brewing. However I would say that the fact that the brews are faster are a happy side effect, and the real intention of the book is fermenting out of the box, or alternative fermented beverages you may have never thought of. Many of her recipes were inspired by interesting fermented beverages she found while traveling. It's full of beautiful photos of ingredients, equipment, and fermented, carbonated beverages looking gorgeous in fancy glasses. I would not get an e-version of this book, it's more than the text. I think the title Speed Brewing might throw someone off, so the publisher added a long winded subtitle, attempting to describe the book in more detail. Fermenting on the Flip Side, which was a talk she gave at NHC would more accurately describe the book. Or Beyond Beer. Publishers dictate titles and authors have little choice but to accept their marketing decisions.

The Future Will Taste Just As Delicious As You Make It By Robby This book is clearly the result of years of research and experimentation, but as importantly, it quietly lays out a balanced and broadened approach to incorporating homemade fermented beverages into one's life. I actually became a professional brewer due to the love I felt for hombrewing and the frustration that that love caused me. Traditional beer brewing is inherently a lengthy industrial process, and shoehorning an industrial process into one's domestic space and schedule demands money, room, time, and emotional and intellectual bandwidth beyond what might be considered appropriate for a rational person. This book offers homebrewers a path that is not a reduction of professional brewing, but a purpose-built solution. And yet, that is just the first two chapters of this book. To characterize the rest of the book as being dedicated to "hippie" fermentations as one reviewer has done would be a reductive shame. In fact, it is an exploration of fermented beverages, both within and outside the history of Europe, some just as traditional as beer or even more so, and most of which are generally far more appropriate for brewing and enjoyment at home. Certainly, it's not uncommon for us beer nerds to get all hot and bothered when our favorite professional brewers whisper the phrase "mixed culture fermentation" and more and more often I hear craft beer drinkers getting excited about dry-hopped ciders. Personally, I can't wait to taste the flavors that start to show up at homebrew events and in bars once more people harness the information that Mary decodes for us in Speed Brewing and use that knowledge to present a broader array of alcoholic beverages as well as to broaden the definition of mixed fermentation beers.

By Misscsolo Life is full of ups and downs and good times and bad but at the end of the day life is about working hard and playing harder! While we are playing we have to remember that actions have consequences so if you are not prepared to deal with them you might want to rethink your steps.Tay Wilson is a free spirit. Tay has no responsibilities beyond making sure that she is well taken care of. She is the friend that you shake your head at for her lifestyle but you secretly want to know what it is like to live like her.Karen Patterson is the responsible one of the trio. Karen is married and would never do anything to jeopardize that. The entire point of going on vacation is to let your hair down where nobody knows you and have a blast. Is this something that Karen should or would do or will she just sit on the sidelines watching?Roxy Jones is in a committed relationship, but a committed relationship is not a marriage. While Roxy loves her relationship she is definitely looking for more. Will this girl-cation help her with what she wants out of life or will she just go with the status quo? What That Mouth Do? is a very easy and quick story to get through. You meet and explore all of the characters, are given situations and solutions to them. There are no hidden messages, it is a very straight forward book. The story wraps up clean but I can see where if the author decided to do a sequel which characters are going to be in the forefront. I enjoyed reading this novel and as always look forward to reading more from Eros.

By Midnight Red Girl-cation: A vacation with our girls, whether from college, work or anywhere we've made a connection. No husbands, boyfriends, or children allowed. Our right to walk away for a few days and just be!Tay, Roxy, and Karen all decided it was time for a girl-cation and Miami was the place to be! Tay, the single and loving it chick spent her days partying and looking for the next cum-up. Roxy is stuck in a three-year relationship warp with Marcus. She doubts it's going anywhere. After a blow up with her man sends her on girl-cation with teaching him a lesson in mind. Karen is happily married to Keith, who's not feeling the whole trip, especially with Tay.These ladies must've forgotten that only what happens in VEGAS stays in VEGAS. Miami is another world and what happens there could wind up front page news. There's much more that could be said about this book, but it would give away too much. So I'll wrap up this review by saying; if the author chose to retitle and recover this novella he could reach a higher audience. This is a story that's urban, yes but it's also contemporary and dramatic. While there are very sexual scenes it's not an overly erotic book. I can only recommend it to people who are willing to look past the current cover and see the world trapped between it.

All of these statements are true about the story; they are also misleading: A serial killer remains active around the country for years, until he kills a college girl in his home city. The girl's friend enlists the help of an ex-soldier, turned heroin addict, to help find out what happened to her closest friend.

Great book with interesting characters and a riveting plot! 4.5 stars By Rnhc314 Sorry, I'm going to be pretty vague, I don't want to give anything away. This book is a little hard to review. The amount of characters and timelines were a bit confusing initially. The first 50 pages is mostly world building and character introductions/development. When you meet each character it's at a different stage in the timeline, which can be disorienting at times, but I think it's necessary for the trajectory of the story. The author could have just forced you to read pages and pages of internal monologue about the past. Instead you get a front row seat to the events that made each character who they are when everyone meets up in the present. Its an interesting writing technique, and though it can be a bit puzzling sometimes, it really adds to the story as a whole.Anyway, once you get past the first 50 pages or so, it's smooth sailing from there. You really get lost in the story and the twists and turns it takes come outta left-field. Every time I thought I knew where the story was headed, I was wrong.Characters:The killer is such a unique guy. He's so inhuman and human at the same time. He's someone you shouldn't be able to connect with, but as the story moves on you find yourself understanding his motives. It's hard to describe him in a way that makes sense to those that haven't read the story, but he's fascinating to say the least. The other cast of characters include: Robert, Sarah, Emma, Leia, Miriam, and Raid. Robert is a war vet, who was injured during the war. Sarah is a doctor trying to help Emma treat her incurable disease. Leia and Miriam are BFF/party girls, and Raid is a very interesting guy that becomes Miriam's boyfriend. I know what you're thinking what in the world would make such a diverse group come together, well I guess you'll have to read it to find out!All in all, it was a quick read. The characters are interesting and easy to relate to. And it's a book I want to reread again very soon.

So we have a varied group of people that we are introduced to throughout this book. Robert fought in a war at some point, got a head injury, was addicted to heroin during and after service. Sarah is dying of an in-curable hard to pronounce disease & Emma is her doctor/friend/lover. Leia & Miriam are friends who attend a school and like to party on breaks. Raid ends up being Miriam’s boyfriend. No Name Man, if you can call him that, is very interesting. I love his internal monologue and it’s almost satirical at times and his point of view of humanity is very sad and somewhat true, even though it’s hard to admit. Quite the conundrum. This book was very hard for me to get into in the beginning. I am used to a nice romance, oh, let’s meet and fall in love, have some sex, a little plot twist and everything works out. This is not that book. I ended up bringing out a pen and paper to try to keep track of all the characters and time frame shifts. The book ranges from 15 years ago to the present and skips back and forth. Once I got to chapter 14 (of which, I love the name for some reason) I stopped taking notes and found that I could follow along much easier. Once I got into it, I found myself trying to guess what would happen next and how everyone would end up being connected. The 3Gs in your cell phone are really funny in Chapter 12. Chapter 46 knocked me on my butt and left my head spinning. If you like suspense, like to think about what is happening, and putting pieces of a puzzle together while reading, then read this book!~ARC received from Author for Honest Review~

Got side tracked for a few days so decided to start at the beginning again. Glad I did as reading the first several chapters, in building the story, it skipped from character to character and past to present so it wasn't easy piecing the story at first. Restarting the book like we did helped with getting a deeper grasp of the characters and once past a certain point it flowed much easier and it all came together in my brain. I enjoyed reading about the various characters portrayed in this novel and how their lives intertwined. Not what I expected. Each chapter left you wanting to go on to the next. Loved how the story was written and how the author described the characters with the verbiage used. This writer really has a love of language. Very well put together. When I finished the book I wanted to reread it to see if I missed anything as it came to life for me. I am anxiously awaiting the next novel from J.J. Tawes.

I have a feeling it is self-published, or at least, if an editor was involved, they should be fired. The story is OK - although a bit predictable - however, there are editorial problems throughout. The number of times "you're" is used for "your" is frightening. One is a contraction of "you are" and one is possessive...they are NOT interchangeable. Words are missing at times...one can infer what is missing, but a decent editor should have caught this. Several times people say "I use to..." in dialogue...or descriptions such as "he use to be kind to people" are used. Just plain incorrect - "used to" is the proper phrase.I finished the book, so the story was enough to make me want to know how it ended - but I was distracted from the story several times when the grammatical errors were so egregious as to make me stop in wonder. I wanted to give it 2.5 stars, but had to choose between 2 and 3...I feel I may have been too generous, but I went with 3.
