2nd Edition. What is mankind to do when the greatest minds of the generation are unable to save the Earth from its own demise? Build better minds. We created the Cybers to find the solutions that would save mankind, turning to them time and time again to solve new problems that plagued our species. In 3026, we believed we had control over the 3rd generation of Cybers, using them to aid in criminal investigations that involved jurisdiction conflicts between various planets. All was well until Military Advisor Joseph, aka J-17, acted out against his programming, killing a high-ranking dignitary from Parasus during an investigation. Was this a random act due to faulty programming, or do darker undertones lie within the computer augmented minds of the Cybers?

As he has stated, ‘I love fiction. Movies, comic books, video games, television, and of course, novels. My true love is fantasy, but my current works are in mystery and science fiction. I grew up trying to hide my love for fiction because it wasn't socially acceptable at the time. Over the years, wisdom, and a change in public image, has taught me that you have to remain true to yourself if you are to ever be happy.’And so we enter his world – a complex and fascinating place in the future and even his descriptors of time and place tickle the imagination – ‘Rebooting… Installation complete. Updating… Confirming programming… Confirmation complete… Scanning… Scanning… Location: Quadrant I7, Sector 4. Common Planet Name: Parasus. Population: 942,540 Founded: Earth Year 2892 Parasus Year: 134 Ruling Class: Monarchy Government History: 3rd Monarchy. 1st Monarchy overtaken during civil war, 2944. Replaced by 2nd Monarchy. Regime overtaken, method classified, 3019.’ It is a well-considered combination of forces we know now those that are possible in the future. And out of this he weaves Book 1 of his series: ‘What is mankind to do when the greatest minds of the generation are unable to save the Earth from its own demise? Build better minds. We created the Cybers to find the solutions that would save mankind, turning to them time and time again to solve new problems that plagued our species. In 3026, we believed we had control over the 3rd generation of Cybers, using them to aid in criminal investigations that involved jurisdiction conflicts between various planets. Was this a random act due to faulty programming, or do darker undertones lie within the computer augmented minds of the Cybers?’For readers enchanted with futuristic science fiction and fantasy mixed with adventure and mystery SONS OF ABRAHAM is a fine aperitif. The book is short enough that the plot unfolds in the space of time for an evening’s read and it whets the appetite for Book 2. Grady Harp, November 15

It is set in a future world that has robots doing much of the work in all aspects of life. Ray’s novel focuses in specifically on a 3rd generation robot, J-17 (they are called Cybers in Ray’s novel) that acts out against his programming and kills a member of government. It isn’t a small act that would be brushed off in ordinary circumstances, instead, it calls into question how reliable the Cybers are and whether or not programming was the fault or if the Cybers are able to have positive and negative associations and mind power beyond the programming. Determining a difference between the artificial intelligence and emotional understanding is one of the focuses in the novel and it is interesting to see how the different perceptions of how J-17 should be handled. J-17 is clearly at fault, but it is a matter of treating him as if he were human or a robot, that piqued my interest even more.
