Ritualistic Human Case Study By Amazon Customer On the outside, RITUALISTIC HUMAN SACRIFICE is a fun and nasty field trip through the obscene, but with a nicely wrapped logic to tie believability to the massacre. The plot ticks by at a page burning speed and the characters work well to turn one man's sick world into a surreal visit to the other side of taboo. But that is not what gets it five stars.C.V. Hunt does something with her protagonist I've only seen once before with B.E.Ellis, in AMERICAN PSYCHO (book, not movie!), and that is: to allow her readers to live in a sociopath's skin long enough to accept and develop rapport with the obvious socially unacceptable. When the protagonist's external world turns against him in the most inhumane ways imaginable, this situation turns into the perfect, horrific pressure cooker. I don;t recommend this for readers with weak stomachs or fear of seeing what humanity is capable of. On the other hand, for those who don't mind taking a peek at what we all knew was trully out there in the worse possible ways imaginable, 5-stars and be thankful for the people you love!

Fun, wild read By Rick Westbrock I have to preface my review by stating that I expected this to be a Bizarro book based on my reading friends who recommended it to me which might have biased my opinions a bit. I kept waiting for the Bizarro to show up but it turns out this is a dark/explicit horror story instead. That is not a bad thing, just different from what I had expected. Had I noticed the border pattern around the covers I might have changed my expectations, that was a pretty cool design. The first bit of the book seemed quite pedestrian to me, almost more like literary fiction. Nick was a sympathetic protagonist at first, even if he was a bit harsh he seemed to be justified in being pissed off. As that story wore on he definitely shifted to being an unsympathetic character. Even towards the end after lots of things have transpired I still had a bit of "that's what you get" going for him at least to some extent. After what I thought was a slow buildup the story got really interesting and quite dark. There was what I realized later a hint at what was to come, once I had read further I had a facepalm moment when I looked back at the earlier scene.Based on how Nick's character changed over the course of the story (or maybe it was just my perception of him) I expected something different, something more from the ending. Overall I would say that this was worth the read despite the ending being a bit of a letdown.

I am a big fan of CV Hunt, I think this is the fourth book of hers I have read and it's definitely the most extreme. I feel like I need a shower. The story begins with Nick Graves who is trying to gather the gumption to leave his wife Eve due to the staleness of their marriage. He soon finds out from Eve that she has tricked him into being a father because she's pregnant. Nick really doesn't want kids, and decides instead of leaving Eve, he is going to concoct a spiteful revenge plan. Lets just say his plan doesn't go as planned.I read the book in pretty much one sitting. It's 200 pages but the first half of the book flows effortlessly and keeps your interest by building up that something effed up is coming, and man does it come. The first part of the book reminds me a little of Gone Girl or Antichrist but I mean that more from the psychological warfare of a couple aspect more than I do about Hunt's actual writing. One of my favorite thing about the author's writing is her ability to create modern realistic situations without them being corny. There is a page in the front of the book that acknowledges the writing of Bentley Little and Bret Easton Ellis. I can see that too. I definitely recommend this to previous fans of CV Hunt and Grindhouse fans such as myself and others who are fans of the more extreme spectrum of horror.
