Obsidian is a modern romance with a supernatural twist. Emily Cross has a painful past, but a promising future. She’s content with her job, close friends, and grouchy cat. Her days are filled with a routine she adores, which partially explains why she is constantly turning down her boss’s dinner invitations. She has no desire to change the pattern, even for a date. William Emerson has no interest in romance, either. He prefers short lived relationships. The kind where he drinks his fill, then dumps the body. Actually, it's more a necessity than a relationship. The only emotion involved is bloodlust, and he's fairly certain that isn't an emotion at all. When they cross paths in a coffee shop on the fringes of downtown Nashville, neither can explain the strange desire to explore a deeper connection. But as their relationship blossoms, fate throws dangerous hurdles in their path. Even if Emily manages to accept William's terrifying secrets, there is no guarantee he can control his darkest desires. And as her boss grows ever more infatuated and begins to rely on some powerful and deadly allies to get his point across, the question becomes not if William and Emily will fight for their love, but will either of them survive it.

Fresh New Take on the Vampire Genre--One You Cannot Put Down By Crystal For a while, the Twilight series attempted to water down and desecrate the vampire genre. While it was not the only offender, the series was pervasive enough to turn people away. The genre has been revived and improved upon in this novel. Obsidian is a visceral, beautifully-written story that seamlessly merges supernatural elements with realistic situations, avoiding clichés with a fresh narrative. The shifting points of view gives readers a though journey into the lives of characters that were already interesting. You feel as if you know Emily, William, and even Trevor by the end. The erotic passion and violence is well-balanced with moments of clarity as our characters adapt to their strange new surroundings. Somehow, one could envision these events playing out, and that makes the whole experience more mesmerizing. This is a page-turner that will stay with you long after the first read. I am looking forward to more work from this exciting new author

From the first paragraph I was sucked in to Emily and the glimpse of tragedy tinging her memories. It gives you a private window to sneak a peak into someone else's life story. The author makes the reader care about the woman who survives devastation, numbly moves through what remains of her lonely life, and finds hope and love out of the darkness. The novel was fast paced and yet allowed time for the reader to identify with the characters, whether loving or despising them. The main characters were surrounded by solid and well fleshed out minor characters that helped the reader feel the impending rush toward the climatic ending. A great read and a treat from a previously unknown author. I hope that Ms. McDaniel continues to publish her works for the reading community to enjoy. Kudos.
