April Mae Manning from Unaccompanied Minor is back, and back in trouble, but this time, she's run out of chances...

April Mae was raised on airplanes by her flight-attendant parents. But since her dad's death and her mom's remarriage to the nefarious pilot Ash Manning, April's been in nothing but danger: two airplane crashes; two car crashes; and now, as a student pilot, in an old plane crippled over the Caribbean. Can she survive, and save her friends, or is this the watery end to "Crash" Manning's story?

Praise for Unaccompanied Minor: "A laugh-out-loud thriller about family court, money laundering and skyjacking" ~Kirkus Reviews

From School Library Journal Gr 9 Up—A fast-paced sequel to Unaccompanied Minor (Merit, 2014). April Mae Manning, otherwise known as "Crash" once again finds herself in the middle of a series of crazy events. The teen discovers that her best friend was kidnapped during her driver's test and recruits her unlikely crew of sidekicks to find the missing girl. Plane crashes, MacGyver moves, and FBI interrogations ensue. Like a teen version of Janet Evanovich's "Stephanie Plum" series (Bantam) because of its implausibility and pure entertainment value, this series entry is action-packed and fast paced. Gillespie, the author of a humor blog, writes funny dialogue, but April's perspective is too sarcastic and jaded to ring entirely true. As in the first book, this work has a ton of aviation-related trivia and facts along with all kinds of survival tips, which may interest some readers. VERDICT An additional purchase for most libraries.—Sarah Wilsman, Kent Free Library, Kent, OH

Assume the Position By Ink and Page **This is the sequel to Unaccompanied Minor, so there may be some spoilers.**This book is even crazier than the first. It picks up shortly after April Mae Manning, the almost-sixteen-year-old, who is now the owner of WorldAir, suddenly doesn't for a while. There's a dispute about whether April's grandfather is really her grandfather after all. And then there's a few dead bodies; her friend, the Waffle House waitress, is hanging on by a thread in the hospital; her best friend, Malcolm just pretended that he didn't know who she was; she has still not passed her driving test; and there's something shady going on involving caskets, a flight to the Cayman Islands, and a fluffy dog named Fifi Trixibelle II.Unaccompanied Minor was a very pleasant surprise, and so I had great expectations for the sequel. This is your pilot speaking: I was not one bit disappointed. The action is super fast, sometimes told in flashback, with many of the original characters returning. There are surprises, twists and turns, but after a bumpy takeoff and some issues in the air, the landing is as smooth as butter. It's quite a thrilling ride whenever you are around April Mae Manning and her crew. And bring some airsickness bags, just in case.So stow away all of your electronics, get your beverage of choice and settle in. You're going to want to finish this before deplaning. We Will Be Crashing Shortly by Hollis Gillespie was published June 15, 2015 by Merit Press. However, as the title suggests she seems to find herself in yet, another plane crash situation. This book was much like the first in terms that there are many plot twists within the pages that you don’t really expect as you are reading them. Some kind of creep up on you and when you read it your thinking is that so, others make you think major plot twists and some make you think the words I thought so to yourself.U really enjoyed this book as it has its own kind of humor, its an interesting attention grabbing story and it allowed me a better look at the characters I enjoyed in the previous book. I think that anyone that enjoys realistic like fiction, airplane trivia and a light hearted suspense story could enjoy this series as much as I did.I do hope that the author chooses to add more books to this series as I have come to love the characters and their playful banter and the means in which they communicate with one another. I think it would be fun to read on into the story and see what becomes of their lives in another year or so.
