There’s a stereotype for how a convicted felon appears to the public. Connor Stevens fit that bill. His reputation preceded him. With a hard body and vivid tattoos dispersed across his flesh, he certainly drew the judgmental eyes of conservative tight-asses. Even I had those same thoughts…regardless of how highly Blake spoke of him. But those opinions were about to be challenged. I’d promised to pick Connor up from prison—where he’d served eight years for manslaughter. When Blake passed away, I had every intention of honoring our agreement. Taking Connor home would be my ultimate show of gratitude. Blake never disclosed why Connor killed a man, and I never had the guts to ask. Ever daunted, and against my better judgment, I soon grew to feel close to Connor, in spite of how perverse it was. Still, I vowed to brush off those feelings at all costs. At least I thought I would. Until all hell broke loose… Diving head-first, I relished in the time spent in Connor’s damnation. But when he was thrust into hell, it didn’t matter how wrong it was to love him. It was immaterial what he’d done…or why. I came out swinging and clawing, and submerged into the inferno with him, refusing to leave until we both walked out hand in hand. My instinct was to fight. Connor wouldn’t burn alone. I would save him. Or turn to ash right beside him.

You’re a pillar, a rock. And it’s all I ever wanted.”Taking Connor was just beautiful. Just simply, beautiful. I even choked up during it near the ending. Just sayin.’It was about taking risks and second chances that you don't get so easily in life.... It was about paying homage and honoring the wishes of your loved ones.... And most importantly, it was about family-- and the unconditional and unwavering love, bonds, and sacrifices you would pay to protect them.Author B.N. Toler, covers a different array of invoking and emotional topics, that will certainly tug at your heartstrings. While I won’t go into specifics of what they are, while reading, some I could already see forthcoming. It was just a hunch I had, and I turned out to be sadly correct.Demi, man, she had to be one of the strongest, most unbias and selfless woman protagonists I have ever read. How she honored her late husband’s wishes, and gave his ‘brother’ a second chance at life, and accepted him when most society wouldn’t.And Connor. Let me first say, that this fine young man is one of my new book boyfriends. Connor loves hard and fights passionately. No, I am in no way stating that he is an actual fighter in any way, but, the man will love you with all that he has if you really and truly give him the chance, and will also fight in your corner with all of his being or die trying. He and Demi are a great pair, as they give an aura of morality, integrity, justice, and utter redemption for the other and those around them. My heart bled for them when they were at their lowest and it soared when they triumphed against all opposition.I was a little sad though for Demi at how her reputation within her community was tainted, although, I was ecstatic with how she and Connor finally found peace and solace admist the vapid noise in their lives. They deserved that shred of happiness.I really hope BN will consider writing a sequel, with perhaps Dusty and Lexi *pretty please!!* getting on in the action, and peaks here and there of our favorite star-crossed lovers. But that's just ramblings of an obsessed reader. And a delusional one at that. *haha!*Anyway, all I can say is, MORE Ms. Toler, MORE.I haven’t known the author from the beginning, but I do remember long ago her messaging me and asking me to take a chance on her debut novel, Healer, and my thoughts on the cover art. I've been with her ever since, faithfully reading everything she has ever thrown at me, biding the time to get my grabby hands on her next work of art.BN never fails to write compelling stories with heart and that always have a moral compass to it. It isn’t just to entertain you.I guess, in a way, that is what transcends and perhaps, touches me the most about her writing.Thank you, BN, I really appreciate you always reaching out and extending the opportunity for bloggers and readers like me to be exposed and immersed in the world of your awesomeness!!Much love.

She can write a sweet and sexy story but boy can she write a heartbreaking one. This author can truly takes you on an emotional roller coaster and Taking Connor is definitely that.Demi Stevens is mourning her husband’s death still several years later but is following through on her promised to him on his death bed, to be the one to pick up his cousin, who was more like a brother, when he is released from prison after spending eight years there for murder. Blake set everything up for Connor, an apartment over the garage and the garage all set up for him to work on cars and start his own business on top of some clothes when Demi picks him up. Although Demi doesn’t know the details of why and who Connor murdered, Blake never shared that with her and she never asked. And even after picking him up and taking him to her home, she never asked, she trusted her husband and that he would never put her in harm. What she did not expect is the attraction and connection she would feel towards Connor, the man her husband considered to be like a brother. How do you put a book like this into words, one where it takes you on an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish. The love Demi had for Blake was the kind that we dream of, sadly it was cut short, but even years after he has passed away, you can still feel the love she has for him as well as the love he had for her. Then Connor comes into the picture and you can’t help falling in love with everything about him. He big and full of tattoos, looking like the typical ex-convict but there was so much more to him. Connor was not at all what I was expecting, he was a protector, he was caring, thoughtful but he was also very hot and sexy with a touch of Alpha in him. And once all becomes known about him and all that had happened in the past, you can’t help but fall in love with him even more, which I didn’t think was even possible.Demi was such a strong and amazing character, she loved her husband Blake, so much that she is now carrying out his dying wish, by taking in his cousin after he gets out of jail for murder. But she believe in Blake, even without knowing the details as to who or why Connor killed nor the details surrounding it, she just knows that Connor meant alot to her husband, and believes her husband would not put her in danger so she was going to carry out his wishes. Demi stands up for him, she feels immediately safe with him, she treats him as the person Blake believed him to be, not a murderer. But she also struggles with the feelings she has towards him, and I loved that she had issue with her feelings and struggled. Overall this book was such a fabulous heartbreaking read that kept me on the edge of my seat taking my emotions up, down and inside right to the very end. This author can just create a story that sucks you in, makes you laugh, makes you cry and totally make you swoon one moment and needing a fan to cool down the next. I only came upon this author by chance many books ago and she has done all those things including taking me outside my normal reading zone and made me fall in love. I must say, she is an author that is now on my must read and she has one huge fan added to her list.

By NSWAFFAR Taking Connor was so good and it’s one of those books that deserves more than 5 stars. It was touching, heartbreaking, but also really beautiful and sweet. When I read the Blurb of the book, I didn’t really know what to expect. I knew any book by B.N. Toler is good, but I didn’t expect Taking Connor would be as good as it was. This book blew me away, it was so much more than I was expecting. Connor and Demi sucked me into their story from the beginning. The strong and beautiful characters that they were, made me fall in love with them quickly.Demi’s husband made her promise before he died, to take care of his cousin Connor after he gets out of jail. To give Connor everything he had set him up for him and to help me get back on his feet. Demi never imagined that Connor would be anything to her, but her dead husband’s cousin. But she learned from their first day together, that Connor was so much more than she could imagine. Not only was he a beautiful man, but he was also hiding a beautiful person deep inside. After their serious heavy talked, she realized she wasn’t the only one that love her late husband Blake. That Connor loved his cousin so much and she finally got a glimpse of understanding why her husband wanted Connor to be alright and why he respected him so much. Connor was respectful, helped Demi out with what she needed and they became fast friends. But there was also the attraction they had for each other, that she thought was so wrong to ever feel. But the closer they got, the harder it was for both of them not to take action for their feelings for each other. Will Demi and Connor figure out that love is worth fighting for? Read and find out.Demi and Connor were beautiful and so strong together. They fought hard against their feelings for each other, because of how much they love and respected Blake. But in the end they learned to let go and understood, that what they have is what Blake would have wanted for them. Blake would want nothing more than, for the two people he loved the most to love each other. Demi and Connor were so hot and sexy together, that you can feel the how much they wanted each other just by the way they talked and touched each other. The way they cared for each other was so real, you can feel it off the pages. What these two had to go through was heartbreaking, but only made them stronger. This book was so good and I couldn’t put it down until the last page.I definitely recommended this as a must read 5+ star read for anyone who hasn’t read it. It was so beautiful, I had to say beautiful on my review so many times, because that’s what it was. This is a beautifully written story about love, forgiveness and hope and when it comes to the people you love, it is worth fighting for even with your life.
