3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Infinite Possibilities For Improvement By Andrew J. Fine I've never reviewed a boxed set before. It's an intriguing idea, utilizing multiple authors to write different stories and settings regarding the same spitfire of a lady character. The majority of the stories were not worth reading but I found one to be exceptional, Ember as a teen Greek demigoddess. I found the depiction of young passion and first love between Ember and her beau to be exquisitely sensitive, and the surprise ending of that particular story hit a particular resonance within me. Four stars for that story alone. There's one other story in the set which is even more than exceptional, it is even worth the price of admission, and should rate five stars on it's own merit were it written as an independent novel. In the story I mention, Ember is a daughter of a deceased mad scientist contending against and allied with same in a steampunk style re-enactment of the aftermath of the War of 1812. The premises used regarding the nature of clockwork intelligence within the context of the competition between electrical and steam power, and then throwing Tesla and the Chinese in for Ember's allies, is absolutely brilliant. The science is also well-thought out and brilliant described. I so much wish there was an actual table of contents outlining all stories and chapters so that I could riffle past the sections I didn't want to read, and focus on the ones I did. I'd love to see more of Steampunk Ember as a character.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Different life's By Elizabeth Berry At first this box set was a little confusing because I wanted all the stories to keep going. I really enjoyed the idea of having a set name such as Ember Addams and have authors write different stories about her. I am a big fan of Steampunk so that story really stood out to me. I recommend for anyone that wants to be introduced to different authors.
