Hernandez The girls reunite in Florence, Italy, and I thought to wrap up their stories, but really, this is only the end of Camie's story with Joelle's and Sarah's still to come (yay!). Camie and Sarah are nursing broken hearts and Joelle is trying to figure out who she is against the rich backdrop of this beautiful and historic Italian town.Camie and Sarah both claim they're ready to put their past romances behind them and move on, but it turns out for both of them, that's easier said than done.PlotTold through Camie's point of view, we get glimpses into Joelle and Sarah, but mostly this is about Camie figuring out what she wants. After leaving Hunter behind in Paris, her ex reaches out to her via email, throwing her into a tailspin. The plotting is familiar, sticking to the formula the author used for the first three books, but that doesn't mean it's predictable.CharactersCamie almost feels more lost now than ever, and her struggles come across as genuine for someone who doesn't know what to do with her future or with her love life. Sarah and Joelle take a giant backseat here, so I didn't get much of a sense of their development. The new characters who are introduced are done so superficially, as they aren't key to the plot.World BuildingFlorence might just have moved to the top of the cities I need to visit in my lifetime. Well, I could probably do without the humidity, so maybe I'll go in the spring. Jen McConnel again combines sights, sounds, textures, and smells to create a three-dimensional setting.EndingI thought this was a great ending to Camie's story and I can't wait to read what happens with Sarah and Joelle.Top Five Things I enjoyed about What Happens Abroad:1. Florence. The city just comes across as sultry and beautiful.2. Camie. She's a hot mess before pulling herself together.3. Pop-up nightclubs with themed rooms. Enough said!4. Eating jarred pasta sauce in Italy. This totally cracked me up.5. Romance. Without giving anything away, this was my favorite part of the book.Bottom LineWhat Happens Abroad nicely wraps up this series for Camie, leaving plenty of room for Sarah's and Joelle's stories to continue.DisclaimerI was provided with a copy of this book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

So when I saw that each of the four novellas in Jen McConnel’s Adventures Abroad series takes place in a different European city—incidentally all favorites of mine—I was on them like they were free plane tickets to Prague. The Adventures Abroad novellas follows Sarah, Camie, and Joelle as they explore Europe both together and apart. I love how they started out as strangers who met in the same hostel and ended up traveling together. Jen McConnel did a good job of painting the life of a backpacker, and of course, she couldn’t go wrong with the destinations. She got the vibe of each of the cities down pat and made me reminisce about the culture of London, the romance of Paris, the hip feel of Berlin, and the art of Florence.I guess I just couldn’t get into the girls as much as I wanted to. I feel like my age gap kept me from relating with them. The wanderluster—if there is such a word—in me couldn’t help but get annoyed by how they took their fortune for granted and how they let their preoccupations with the guys they met keep them from fully enjoying their travels. Honestly, I got my feels more from the places than the people. But then, I think my yearning to return to Europe on an open-ended ticket colored my reactions to the three girls. Still, it was a quick, fun read that I think will appeal more to teens and maybe those in their early 20s.*I received an ARC of the Adventures Abroad novellas in exchange for an honest review.**Review originally posted on www.WillReadforFeels.com

Phillips During their travels , three girls met for the first time and created a bond that would last them a lifetime as travel buddies. These three girls were called Sarah, Camie and Joelle. It's the final leg of their journey and for each of the girls it has been a life-changing experience and they have all been through a lot of different things . It's their final summer before life chucks them back into reality and the three of them have decided to rent an apartment in Florence, Italy. Each of the girls , by the time Italy rolls around has suffered heartache and Florence, Italy is a time for themselves to celebrate them. Though as we have learned from the previous books, anything can happen when travelling. What Happens Abroad is more so Camie's story than the other girls as she is wondering A) how to tell her parents that she stuffed up with her art scholarship and have nothing to go back to and B) her heartache for losing Hunter whom she met during her holiday and fell in love with and C) the ex-boyfriend fiasco where Jim has gotten back in contact with her and telling her that their separation was a big mistake and he still loves her . Though I did like to see Camie get her HEA, I was hoping for a little bit more about Joelle's story and whether she gets a second chance with Vi - the girl she fell in love with in Berlin and Sarah's story with Carson - the guy she left behind in Amsterdan. So far, Sarah's story has been my favourite but I am enjoying the Adventures Abroad series and look forward to what Jen McConnel has up her sleeves for more reading adventures.
