They a bright, they are perfect and they do not have a person on the cover. Let's be honest, people on the cover is overdone so it's nice to see something different. But I am so in love with these covers. You can see all three of them below.Another series that is coming to an end. I know, all good things must end but I wish this saying weren't true because I love these characters, I love this world and I especially love the voice of Tristan Hart. I have said it in every review I've written for this series and I'll say it again, Zoraida is spot on with Tristan. He sounds like a teenage boy, he acts like a teenage boy and honestly, he reminds me exactly of this 18 year old guy that I work with. Writing the opposite sex is difficult (I know, because I used to write fan fic and roleplay Harry Potter and I just couldn't get the guys down) and there are few authors, in my opinion, that succeed brilliantly with it. This is one of those stories that is spot on and it makes me enjoy the books more because it's real.I thought I would be upset about the fact that it's a good two thirds to three quarters of the way in until we see Layla again because, romance is a big thing for me but honestly, I wasn't missing it. I mean, I was but I felt like the story held it's own without it. I was just so invested in everything going on that this book held my attention from beginning to end. There was one disappointed in this book but it's a minor one (and a bit of a spoiler). I feel like one minor disappointment is pretty dang good.I am very happy with the ending of this trilogy and it doesn't leave me questioning anything or wondering what happened with so and so. I feel like it was tied together nicely with a purdy little bow on top. But like I said, I'm sad it's over.

Chapter by Chapter's review of The Vast and Brutal Sea By MaryAnn I loved author Zoraida Cordova’s The Vicious Deep series since I read the very first book. It was a new take on mermaids with a fun protagonist and a fast-paced story to boot. It was a fun time and every time I would enter her world of murderous mermaids, I wouldn’t want to leave. It pains me to know that this is the last book in the series. I don’t know how I’ll let go of Tristan and Layla and all of the characters who interact with them in the series. Obviously, The Vast and Brutal Sea would the epic conclusion. Romance, betrayal, war—I was ready for it all and I wasn’t left disappointed. The Vast and Brutal Sea takes place exactly where The Savage Blue has left off. Tristan finds himself first at the mercy of a tribe of mermaids on a seemingly deserted island where he is reunited with an old friend. He knows that in two days all Hell will break loose. And with the Silver Mermaid—Nieve—having all the power and his best friend and sort-of-not-really girlfriend Layla, Tristan is stuck between a rock and a hard place. When Tristan is betrayed by Kurt, who plans to take the Throne for himself, he knows that there is only one way to win this battle and that it will require returning to the place where everything began. What I loved most about The Vast and Brutal Sea is that it begins with action and it ends with action. There is no in-between. The Vast and Brutal Sea is everything that a final novel in a series should be. Action. Action. Action. And it’s all relevant to the plot. There are so many things that happen in The Vast and Brutal Sea that make it incredibly addictive and make you not want to put it down until you know exactly who will win, who will lose and who will survive. The stakes are obviously high in the novel. Especially for Tristan. Nieve has Layla, she has everything set in place for her plan to work out. She’s dangerous and everybody knows it and it is only a matter of time before she shows just how dangerous she really is. There are chapters that I adored in The Vast and Brutal Sea that took place revolving solely around Nieve. They were beautifully written and added a lot of depth to her character that wasn’t there in the past two novels.Betrayal is a big part of The Vast and Brutal Sea. There is so many plot twists and unexpected character deaths and betrayals. It left me reeling, constantly. Cordova writes it all in a way that is humorous when it needs to be, easy-flowing and at the same time very simplistic. My only real complaint would be certain scenes where Tristan’s character attempts to be witty in certain circumstances and just comes out looking a bit foolish. Other than that, The Vast and Brutal Sea was great. Truly, truly great. The conclusion is good. It’s strong. I know that the series might be at its end. I’m so sad that I’ll never be able to enter this amazing world that has been built up over the past three books with beautiful lore and characters. This is a series that I will always think fondly of. I personally hope that there might be some sort of spin-off. That we might get to see more, perhaps not form behind Tristan’s eyes, but just more.I would recommend the Vicious Deep trilogy to readers who are looking for an easy read that is well-written and fun. These are novels that have their serious moments but are also humorous and funny when they need to be. There’s romance but not too much romance. There’s lots and lots of action. Plot twists. This is a genuinely good series that I highly recommend.

Vicious Deep trilogy comes to an end in an awesome way By Jenelle Klavenga ********************Thank you NetGalley for a review copy of this book****************I actually stumbled upon the second book Savage Blue on NetGalley and thought it sounded interesting. I had the library quickly order book 1, The Vicious Deep, and read it quickly. I loved it. Then I read the second book and loved it as well! Then NetGalley put out book 3 and I was hoping up and down with joy! It didn't disappoint.Kurt has betrayed him and Layla has been kidnapped by Nieve. Tristan is out to find the Sleeping Giants, believing they will help him win the war. But instead he ends up trapped on a misty island, having to learn the River clan ways before he can leave. Luckily time outside the island moves differently and the outside world is almost at a standstill. Tristan's main goal is to rescue Layla, but harsh decisions must be made because Nieve is making her move. Now.Okay, yeah LOVED IT! The book kept me going through the whole thing. I couldn't put it down. I had never heard of Zoraida Cordova until Vicious Deep came out, but you can bet that she is on my must read author list now!
