Reckless Abandon By FMR Book Grind So, I'll be honest, I fell in love with this story from page one!!It was an honest to goodness damn good love story, the kind that has passion & a swoon worthy hero.Emma is a total sweetheart with a heart of gold. She has had a rough year but she is just a nice person who is struggling with her grief.She isn’t setting out to be dishonest or deceiving. She has been swept off her feet & can’t understand what went wrong when he disappears.Alexander has been burned, not just by women but by his grandfather that raised him. He believes Emma is too good to be true. So he runs.When this couple reunites, they don’t have an easy road to their happy ending but it is clear fate wants them together.This is a stunningly beautifully written story that will draw you in and have you swept up in the love and lust. It was like watching it play out as a movie in my head.The change in Alexander from the point he meets Emma to when he falls in love with her is mesmerizing. He turns into a completely different man & this confuses him.Emma was a shell of herself when she first meets Alexander but he brings out the life in her. She starts to feel & live again. By the end of this story, they are almosttwo completely different people and in a much better place then they ever have been before.I could seriously go on & on about how beautiful this story was, but you really need to read it for yourself. If you like the underdogs to come out swinging & fight for theirhappy ending, you will love this story. It is not violent at all it is just full of two people that are meant to be together & are prepared to fight for each other above all else.REVIEW BY: LEEANN

One that will stay with me forever. I’m admittedly a Jeannine Colette fan, love her books and love her, she’s awesome. I was lucky enough to get an early copy of this book and felt more than honored. Yet Jeannine asked me to be honest, so I’m being honest. The book is awesome, everything I expected from Asher’s story and then some.Like most other fans of Pure Abandon (Jeannine’s first book, which I loved), I fell in love with Alexander Asher and was rooting hard for him and Kathryn to end up together. Yes, Jeannine’s writing is so good I was rooting for the lover. Anyway, little did I know when I read Pure Abandon that Alexander Asher’s story will end up being bigger and better. You definitely do not have to read Pure Abandon to completely enjoy this book, but you totally should because is really good!So, Reckless Abandon, what can I say. This book grabs you from the first page of the prologue. The story follows the heroine Emma Paige and her sister Leah on vacation in Capri, Italy. Emma has had a really bad year, really bad, full of loss and regret. She has lost someone very dear to her, ended a long term relationship and also lost her livelihood and career. Her family is extremely worried about her well-being and her sister, who is awesome and hilarious, takes her on this vacation to cheer her up. Through a series of unfortunate but fortunate events, she meets Alexander Asher. Asher is gorgeous, mysterious and also damaged. He is also rich, very rich, but Emma has no idea who he really is. They instantly connect, they are both broken and damaged and share the same passion for music. They can’t stay away from each other, find each other’s company great for their healing process and the passion is off the charts.The story is told in two parts, the first part in Capri, Italy and the second part of the story continues in New York City where Alexander/Asher lives and where Emma has recently moved to. Part of why I love Jeannine’s writing is because of her attention to detail, she has a great way of describing scenes and places without boring you to death, she makes you feel like you’re part of the story. The story has some twists and turns, some minor angst, misunderstandings, hurt and lack of trust but the romance is swoony. Their courtship is amazing, the way serious topics are combined with humor is flawless. I loved all the symbolism of the roses, the music and the color yellow. I also loved the way music is such a big part of the story. But above all, I loved the characters. Emma is so precious, so brave and strong, my kind of heroine. She spoke her mind, opened her heart and loved this man that was so deserving of love. Which brings me to Asher. My beautiful, amazing Asher. He’s the stuff dream book boyfriends are made of, beautiful, amazing, sexy, super alpha male, simply swoon worthy. There were a few times, where I wanted to slap him, lol, but he redeems himself in the most awesome way. In the end, they both needed each other so much and they both deserved to be saved and loved. There is no doubt in my mind that Asher and Emma are just perfect for each other, perfect! I also loved the secondary characters, especially Emma’s sister Leah (with her Matthew McConaughey obsession) and her friends from work.So, you must get this book now! Go get it! It’s awesome, it will leave you with the biggest grin in the world! It will keep you glued from the first page and will bring all the feels. All of them! Oh and I’m a sucker for epilogues and that epilogue was epic Reckless Abandon, by Jeannine Colette

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Two cheers for craft vermouth By Roochak Adam Ford sure likes vermouth. He likes it well enough to write a well-illustrated, comprehensive history of the spirit from Neolithic China to the end of the MAD MEN era. He likes it well enough to create his own brand of American craft vermouth (available at a selection of high-end bars), which he can't recommend highly enough.He likes it well enough to offer recipes for a 2:1 vermouth-to-gin martini, a 2:1 vermouth-to-rye Manhattan, and a Negroni that's a glass of vermouth with a half-shot of gin and some orange liqueur in it. As I said, the man really likes his vermouth. While I don't share his enthusiasm for the subject, he's written a perversely fascinating book: a definitive history of vermouth's rise from ancient tipple and healing elixir to the king of mixers, with cocktail recipes (including an extensive selection of 19th century vermouth cocktails) that would drive many of us away from drinking. Well worth reading, though.

By Christian This book has some positive things going for it, from a very interesting and thorough history of vermouth to a beautiful layout and gorgeous photography. It's very nice to see this ingredient mulled over in-depth, and there are some very intriguing facts about the decline of vermouth in the US following WWII that I have not seen discussed elsewhere.That being said, I am fairly disappointed with the blatant branding and focus on NY regional products that runs throughout the second half of the book. I get it, the author invested his time and energy into the Atsby vermouth line and loves the NY area, but this reads more like a list of sponsored recipes for his company/colleagues that you would find in promotional PR material or a paid ad than an honest look at the broad spectrum of vermouth cocktails. That's not to say that they have no place in a cocktail book, especially since the Atsby products are not necessarily interchangeable with other styles, but the sheer amount of times they are called for is overwhelming.Overall, I'd rate this purchase as 2.5 stars. It is a mixed bag that has some great highlights, but I feel is ultimately a missed opportunity when it comes to providing an impartial take on vermouth, and I probably would not purchase it again.

By Jordan Zimmerman Adam Ford has crafted a solidly informative, interesting, and entertaining look into the history of a beverage much maligned in recent cocktail culture. From the book's very introduction, Ford puts the reader at ease and lets everyone know--loud and clear--that although vermouth may have a reputation as your grandmother's drink, sitting under a fine layer of dust in the back of an aging liquor cabinet, the history of the drink is both vibrant, multi-faceted, and will be told by Ford in a way that makes it approachable. I often found myself chuckling at Ford's quips and comments throughout the book. His writing style make it feel like you're sitting next to him at your local watering hole and easily guides the reader through the ancient history, modern American history, and even cocktail recipes in way that is seamless and seemingly effortless. While the read was easy, the information was dense and textured, and structured in a way that build logically and left me both satisfied and thirsty for more after finishing the book. Much like Heather Greene's "Whiskey, Distilled" and Robert Simonsson's history of the Old Fashioned cocktail, Vermouth crafts both a history and a set of approachable modern applications of a drink that takes the reader on an interconnected journey throughout human history as well as through modern culture. I didn't feel as if I only walked away with knowledge of vermouth, but of the cultures within which it has existed for centuries. Also worth mentioning is the absolutely stunning photography peppered throughout-If you doubt the vermouth can be sexy, the visuals alone here will prove you wrong!Vermouth is perfectly timed to the modern resurgence of vermouth in cocktails around the country and deserves a spot on the bookshelf of any cocktail enthusiast, cultural historian, American history buff, or simply anyone who enjoys a good read over a stiff drink.

Such an original idea combined with the need to survive in this great dystopian adventure and not without the conflicts of character, along with a sweet romantic element. Needless to say, I absolutely LOVED this story from beginning to end! Yes, Tim O'Rourke has done it again with his fascinating imagination for story and characters as well as his ability to keep the reader constantly surprised!When I looked at the words 'Chapter One' and read the first sentence "My elbow crunched into his face" it had me straight away. And that is a great example of Tim's writing, direct, to the point and providing plenty of curiosity for the reader to want (and have) to read on!The concept of the stilts is a very original idea. Before reading the book I was a little unsure of how this idea could be used in a believable way but I have to say it does work and it works brilliantly! The stilts are used to help the prisoners to survive. And the main focus of 'Stilts' is the need to survive for the sake of mankind. Trapped in a prison, it isn't too long before supplies run out and in order to leave for more they need some way to try and avoid being attacked by Scorchers. Elements of the story early on reminded me a little of 'The Walking Dead' tv series. However, instead of zombies here we have Scorchers who have an easy ability to melt/scorch anything they touch.The turning point is certainly when Joe leaves the prison in the hope of bringing back help. When he doesn't return hope seems lost. The reader really experiences the rawness of Tessa's determination to be able to find Joe and help for all of the inmates. These are desperate times and Tessa will do anything for a chance to find Joe. During Tessa's adventure the reader is not hidden from the destruction and horror in which the thunderstorm has created. Many of the scenes involving the Scorchers are edge-of-your-seat, nail-biting, excruciating excitement. All of the action scenes are intense, dramatic and gory at times.Tessa is a great heroine and, for me, not too unlike Keira Hudson from Tim's Keira Hudson series. Tessa is a strong, decisive, young woman who, when challenged in some pretty terrifying ordeals, she rises above with her head held high and gives it what she's got. I love her energy, her practicality and her drive. However, unlike Keira, Tessa has been on the wrong side of the law and trouble has come to her. 'Stilts' is told from Tessa's point of view and reads like a narrative, allowing the reader to always be with Tessa and understand all of her thoughts and feelings.Joe is adorable. Although very much a character to keep himself to himself, especially after past experiences, he almost has no option but to try and fit in after realising there are only those within the prison walls that have been unaffected by the change of the world. It isn't too long before he finds a friend in Tessa and as their relationship blossoms so do the romantic gestures and dialogue. The writing is truly beautiful, so sweet and heartwarming. It certainly pulls on the heartstrings and the reader could lose a tear or two!An example of a romantic moment between Tessa and Joe is when Tessa realised Joe had been keeping a CD player in secret:-'"Why didn't you show it to me sooner?" I asked, my face just inches from his."Because I preferred to listen to you hum," he smiled, leaning in and kissing me gently on the cheek.Closing my eyes, I kissed him back. We danced together cheek to cheek in the workshop while the music played softly all around us.'One of my favourite areas of Tim's writing is the describing of the scenery. Tim always makes it so intensifying and exciting, allowing the reader to understand where the characters are and how they deal with their surroundings and the weather. However, whilst some authors can be a little too descriptive Tim writes in such a way that it is incorporated with the characters and their actions, whilst allowing the reader to imagine it for themselves. In 'Stilts' the world as we know it becomes cracked, smoking, and even the sky is a constant shade of red. It is absolutely fascinating stuff!Already 'Stilts', being the first of a trilogy, is making me a little sad to think that after the next two books it will be over. I didn't want to stop reading about these characters. The only dislike I had was having to finish it. I'll certainly be looking forward to the sequel, due for release in 2014!A copy of 'Stilts' was provided by the author for the purpose of an honest and fair review.

Safety. Medicine. Imagine you were given the opportunity to leave it all behind, to fight your way across a desolate land filled with peril in order to obtain the truth. To obtain freedom. To obtain help. To possibly perish in agony along the way. What would you do?Tessa Dark chooses to fight. Sent to prison at age 13 for murder, Tessa lost everything when the thunder came six months later. She hasn’t heard real music in five years. She hasn’t heard from her family in that long, either. Not since the thunder desolated the earth and charred the remains of all those outside the safety of the prison walls. She doesn’t know what happened. She doesn’t know why. But she does know that if she doesn’t bring back help, everyone who’s left will die. She does know that her one true love left to get help, and never returned. But with a timely appearances of the mysterious hooded figure, the zombified scorchers, and the erratic behavior of Beau, the going is anything but easy or forthright. Forced to make split second decisions and haunted by the fate of her love, Joe, Tessa, and readers alike, are in for a wild ride.Perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of this novel, for me, is that is takes place in one of O’Rourke’s intricate “pushed” worlds, seamlessly extending itself into the riveting Kiera Hudson and Jack Seth series by default, two series I absolutely adore. Although it doesn’t directly reference any events within the previously mentioned series, O’Rourke reveals the location of the world through his use of surrounding towns, which clues readers in that Tessa’s story might, just maybe, eventually intersect with that of Jack Seth, and possibly with that of Kiera Hudson as well… an enticing thought.For those new to O’Rourke’s writing, pushed worlds are parallel worlds to the one we know. In other words, an alternate plane in which we also exist and experience different outcomes on our paths of life. In the world you and I know, humans rule and a world recession is in our midst. In Tessa’s world, there is no recession and humans don’t rule anymore because a great thunder, perhaps a war, has torn apart the world as we know it, and zombie like creatures called scorchers roam the desolate earth—a type of goopified zombie whose touch causes one’s body to incinerate.Sound intriguing? It is. And if I lost you with my attempted explanation of a pushed world, no worries. You actually don’t need to know anything about pushed worlds or have read any other O’Rourke novels to follow this latest release. And Stilts is a great novel to begin with if you’re new to O’Rouke’s tales. He is one of my all-time favorite authors, and Stilts does not disappoint.

She has to hope.O’Rourke’s latest release, Stilts, is a riveting novel that takes a unique concept and brings it to life. In a world where walking along the earth is much too dangerous, Tessa and her comrades must learn to utilize stilts in hopes of surviving, of reaching the “island,” a place they aren’t certain really exists, in hopes of helping those who are left. Those who survived.From the very first page, O’Rourke sweeps on the scene with an epic battle on stilts; captivating readers immediately and not releasing them until long after the final page. And it’s extremely well done. Tessa is a believable character, and so is that of Beau, her foil and companion along the trek across the ruined earth to find the rendezvous point. But with a timely appearances of the mysterious hooded figure, the zombified scorchers, and the erratic behavior of Beau, the going is anything but easy or forthright. Forced to make split second decisions and haunted by the fate of her love, Joe, Tessa, and readers alike, are in for a wild ride.Perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of this novel, for me, is that is takes place in one of O’Rourke’s intricate “pushed” worlds, seamlessly extending itself into the riveting Kiera Hudson and Jack Seth series by default, two series I absolutely adore. Although it doesn’t directly reference any events within the previously mentioned series, O’Rourke reveals the location of the world through his use of surrounding towns, which clues readers in that Tessa’s story might, just maybe, eventually intersect with that of Jack Seth, and possibly with that of Kiera Hudson as well… an enticing thought.For those new to O’Rourke’s writing, pushed worlds are parallel worlds to the one we know. In other words, an alternate plane in which we also exist and experience different outcomes on our paths of life. In the world you and I know, humans rule and a world recession is in our midst. In Tessa’s world, there is no recession and humans don’t rule anymore because a great thunder, perhaps a war, has torn apart the world as we know it, and zombie like creatures called scorchers roam the desolate earth—a type of goopified zombie whose touch causes one’s body to incinerate.Sound intriguing? It is. And if I lost you with my attempted explanation of a pushed world, no worries. You actually don’t need to know anything about pushed worlds or have read any other O’Rourke novels to follow this latest release. And Stilts is a great novel to begin with if you’re new to O’Rouke’s tales. He is one of my all-time favorite authors, and Stilts does not disappoint.

And since the male and female winners are supposed to go on a date, Mei has to decide whether she’ll try for it as well.This is a big growing moment for Mei. She’s never been popular, doesn’t particularly like being in the public eye or being all dressed up. But Yamato is important to her, and so she goes for it, and somehow gets in the top five. She has less hope for it than anyone else, but she ends up being inspiring to a lot of her classmates. It was an important moment for her, and I’m glad she did it. It’s also good for her and Yamato, and I like seeing them happy and getting closer.Megumi is also entered, and she’s pretty much a shoo-in. I don’t mind Megumi so much anymore; I don’t trust her feelings for Yamato, but I like seeing her standing up for herself and doing what she wants, pushing herself to do more. We also got to see a little bit of the other couples in the series, and that was nice.This is a lovely, slightly smutty, mature series, and I love it. About the Author Mike Wolfer is a comic book writer and artist, recognized most often for his work in the field of horror comics. In recent years, Mike Wolfer has collaborated with some of the comic industry's most prominent figures, including Warren Ellis and Garth Ennis, on such titles as GRAVEL, WOLFSKIN, and STREETS OF GLORY. John Russo is one of the pioneers of the zombie film genre, having produced and co-written (with George A.
