Lady Cordelia's story from endentured service to talk of the Ton was quite the tale. Normally one for staying out of the spotlight Cordelia is quite put out when Lord Ambrose not only notices her but asks her to dance. By the end of the story it makes you wonder just who saved whom. A great story and I cant wait for more!

They are the most eligible batchelors of the ton. Along with their friend Sir Wilde they are attending another boring ball. Then Anthony wagers his brother Ambrose that he must take the plainest debutante of this season and make her the toast of London.Lady Cordelia Edwards has positioned herself behind some plants, out of sight this is her first and only season. Though she knows she will not get an offer from any gentleman of consequence, her family's history and disgrace are too well known. So when Ambrose Earl of Hawtborne asks her to dance she knows this must be some kind of joke. There's no way he would be interested in her. Every unattached woman in London would marry him in a heartbeat, that also included his handsome brother. He tells her he wants to be her friend, and help her gain the attention of suitable gentlemen. His attention alone should guarantee that.But things do not quite go as planned, and Ambrose feels himself drawn more and more to Cordelia, much to his brother and Wilde's amusement. But what will happen when Cordelia discovers their wager.This is an amusing and well written novella, I really enjoyed it. I would have liked it to have been a little longer then the characters could have been fleshed out a bit more. But nevertheless it is worth reading. If the author reads the reviews, I hope she is considering writing Anthony and Wilde's tales.

Because it is a short story, you won't get an in depth look at the characters. But, if you are a romance reading veteran, you can pretty much develope them on your own!!! I like Rachel & Leah's (the authors) sense of humor! I hope to see a full length book co-authored by the two of them soon!!

His experience with youngsters (and people who act like youngsters) includes teaching high school science in the U.S., Bolivia, Germany and Indonesia - and spending time during this phase to visit and experience life in all 7 continents. And interestingly enough, he has also practiced law, been a public defender, and serving as a personal fitness trainer! That about covers the bases for experiential input to come up with a winning novel. And a winning novel is what he has produced in UNDER THE BED.Read his synopsis to get an idea of where the book is headed: ‘Jackie had quite the typical childhood growing up. It had been another, could it have been he thought, he could never really remember, sleepless night. Every morning after he got up and was in the shower, the horror of the preceding night behind him, he always thought, “I must have fallen asleep sometime. No way I stayed up for 8 straight hours, 480 minutes, 28800 seconds, no way." He always thought that way; so logically, statistically, so calculated; which made his trips into Hell and his nightly chats with Satan all the more strange. He didn't see himself as a verycreative boy, barely any imagination at all. He was not the typical teen dreamer, having visions of fame and success so many have. He knew who he was, where he was, and where he was going. But at night everything he thought he was, every idea he had about himself disappeared. No longer was he the 3.9 GPA student/quarterback who had no problems outside of where he would decide to go to college. In this world of darkness there was no college, no football team, no cocky 18 year old named Jack Cross. Instead, there was a scared shitless little nothing of a kid who flinched at the sound of his own drool hitting the floor. Little Jackie Cross was under the bed again….His sheets a different color than they were the night before; wet with his own excrement of blood, sweat, urine, and tears, they were made to look like a collage of the decay of man. His body locked in terror, each muscle tense with the flow of electricity, jolting it up and down, spasm after spasm.’It is so refreshing to encounter an author who can spin a fine tale, make us laugh, make us love the characters, and include enough suspense to keep our attention glued to the book until the end. Every night he goes to bed and every morning he wakes up with a mask of horror, surrounded by the bloody remnants of a decaying man. Whoa, talk about some freaky sh#t!What starts off as a compelling and psychotic rendition of Linda Blair on The Exorcist soon turns into a twisted and ambiguous story line. Was Jack a vampire? Was his bed-wetting issue part of his transition as a young boy? And what's all this about seeping into a dark underworld under the bed? Weird.The element of the Mickey Mouse nightlight was both comforting and unsettling, for Mickey, "usually a symbol of good and fun" is still "a mere rat, savage and primitive." (20) I wouldn't be able to sleep either if I thought Mickey was trying to eat me. But was he trying to eat him, thus turning him into this flesh-eating beast? I don't get it.Although the words were full of gaudy horror, the story was quite vague. It seemed that Jack was this self-made monster with an obsessive fear and repressed childhood issues. He really needed therapy actually.I'd like to say that this would be a decent, scary story for teens, like those Goosebump books I used to read, but I just felt that there were too many holes in it, which could be translated to mystery, but, in this case, they were black nothings of confusion.

As you read a bit further you go no maybe not maybe a crazy mom story. Well all I can say is Jeffrey was a new author too me but I will be reading more of his books. Always kept me guessing and each page was better than the last. I would highly recommend this book.

AutoHotkey is a powerful scripting language for Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10. If you don't already use AutoHotkey with your Windows computers, then you should start. The language is simple, yet powerful. Best of all, it's free to use. This "Beginner's Guide to Using Regular Expressions in AutoHotkey" is not a beginning level AutoHotkey book, but an introduction to using Regular Expressions in AutoHotkey (or most other programming languages). To get the most from this book you should already have a basic understanding of AutoHotkey (or another programming language). Regular Expressions (RegEx) are a powerful way to search and alter documents without the limitations of most of the standard matching functions. At first, the use of RegEx can be confusing and mysterious. This book clears up the confusion with easy analogies for understanding how RegEx works and examples of practical AutoHotkey applications. "Regular Expressions in AutoHotkey" will take you to the next level in AutoHotkey scripting while adding more flexibility and power to your Windows apps. Regular Expressions (commonly called RegEx or RegExp) in AutoHotkey is not a beginning level script writing topic and there certainly is nothing regular about Regular Expressions. Jack spent a good bit of time exploring the programming tools and has developed a healthy respect for RegEx flexibility and power. Many (including Jack) have avoided using RegEx due to its enigmatic code which at times appears almost incomprehensible. It's not like normal program code with If-Then-Else statements and Loops. Writing a RegEx is not merely a matter of following a logical sequence. It often requires a non-linear look at the problem. Jack's found that what helps him most is the analogy he pictures in his brain pan. That image gives a basis for what a RegEx is trying to do. ("Try" is a good word when describing RegExs. Whereas the usual programming either works or doesn't work, RegEx "tries" to find pattern matches. If none are found, it moves on.) The chapters in this book are grouped by their place in developing a deeper understanding of Regular Expressions while emphasizing the practical application of RegExMatch() and RegExReplace()—the two primary AutoHotkey Regular Expressions functions.The first three chapters are the most important for getting a quick start on how to view and understand Regular Expressions and the AutoHotkey RegEx functions, while the remaining chapters can be studied in almost any order as they each demonstrate one or more practical RegEx applications—i.e. finding double words in text (Chapter Five); fixing mistyped word contractions (Chapter Six); swapping two word in any text editing (Chapter Seven); extracting IP addresses from text, then extracting the geographic location of each from the Web (Chapter Eight); stripping HTML tags from source code leaving only pure text (Chapter Nine); extracting links from a Web page and saving them to a text file (Chapter Ten); and validating e-mail addresses (Chapter Eleven). By Anarchy in the US With the massive audience the Marvel cinematic universe has on the world, it comes to no surprise that most of the A-tier characters have already gotten their own films, followed by the B-tier character to start taking hold. Vision, Scarlet Witch, Falcon, and Quicksilver are the current wave of characters added to the film universe. And this summer, Ant-Man will be joining them with his own solo film and that means Marvel is putting out material for the premiere. To sum it up, Ant-Man was one of the founding characters of the Avengers in 1962 as Hank Pym, genius scientist who created the Pym particles, the technology to change his size and mass from microscopic level to giant forms. The character went through a great deal of identities over the years like Giant-Man/Goliath, Yellowjacket, and Wasp. But after many years of finding his true identity, his left behind his original Ant-Man suit and identity. And in walked the second person to take up the suit and be Ant-Man, Scott Lang.Now Scott Lang’s story is something more low-key than his predecessor Pym. Pym built the crazy villain robot Ultron, has an infamous following in the Marvel Universe as a wife-beater to Janet Van Dyne AKA Wasp, and again, his many identities and costumes that follow. Lang was thief and electronic expert who first became Ant-Man after stealing Henry Pym's Ant-Man suit to save his daughter Cassie from a heart condition. He then reformed his life to be Ant-Man full-time and has worked with every super hero team in the Marvel universe becoming a reliable asset over Pym. But died one time and came back to life and BOOM! Long story short, the premise is the same for the feature film this summer and Scott is receiving his own series. Who cares about a guy who can shrink and talk to ants? Right? Well, to my surprise, this is a delightful series.ANT-MAN VOL.1: SECOND-CHANCE MAN collets issues #1-5. Scott Lang, AKA Ant-Man, is having a bit of a crisis. He has no real job (since being a hero is volunteer work), no place of residence, a criminal background, a ticked off ex-wife Bobbi, and never gets enough time to see their daughter Cassie because of his superhero work. Things look grim, but Scott has hope at a second chance to get his life in order by finding a real job and being a true father to Cassie. The thing is, Cassie and Bobbi are moving to Florida to get away from superhero problems of New York. So what does Scott do? How about working for “Superior” Iron Man Tony Stark as new head of security and starting his own security firm in Florida named Ant-Man Security Solutions to prove himself. That could work!I’m not much of an Ant-Man fan, so I was worried the characters confusing incarnations would bog things down, but that isn’t the case. Writer Nick Spencer summarizes Scott’s history in one issue, getting readers up to speed and cleaning up any messy continuity for new readers to jump on board without knowing a single thing about Ant-Man or Scott Lang. Additionally, Spencer creates Ant-Man as an underdog hero, seeing as many people (myself included) probably don’t know much about the character. So new and old readers can give this all a whirl.As for Scott, Spencer portrays him as a sympathetic father, human being, and superhero with humor, likability, and wit in the same vein he did for Superior Foes of Spider-Man (there’s even has a cameo appearance of one of the characters from that series!). Scott has always been a smart-aleck, laid-back, and down-to-earth guy, which makes for reading about him and his troubles about getting a second chance in life is actually enjoyable either trying to win “Superior” Tony Stark’s approval for chief security against three other super-beings, trying to get a loan out from Florida bank, taking on his arch-nemesis Taskmaster (funny story about that…), dealing with long-time Spider-Man villain Grizzly (interesting turn of events there), and even running into a very old enemy. Scott deals with villains and his family life in a way I didn’t think was possible, but Spencer uses his sense of humor to make an engaging book.All five issues of art are done by Ramon Rosanas which is good and clean in design, yet a dash of cartoony to make the book light in appeal. It reminds me a lot like Steve Lieber’s art for Superior Foes. Coincidence? I think not.I actually had no problems with this opening volume. Maybe because my expectations were low or I don’t know enough of Ant-Man/Scott Lang’s history to possibly see the setbacks. I feel my review is around 4 ½ stars, but there series doesn’t quite have the charm like Superior Foes or the massively popular Ms.Marvel.ANT-MAN VOL.1: SECOND-CHANCE MAN is a fun and likable book in prep for the film coming out this summer of Scott Lang. It’s funny, has heart, has a clean slate for new readers, and isn’t bogged down by the rest of the Marvel universe. I am interested to see Nick Spencer take this character in the future.

Fun Book, best for new Ant-Fans By SPaulB Nick Spencer's writing is wonderful, witty, character driven (if something needs explaining, Ant-Man does it, not "Stan Lee" or an omniscient narrator). After reading this I promptly bought his The Superior Foes of Spider-Man Vol. 1: Getting The Band Back Together, The Superior Foes of Spider-Man Vol. 2: The Crime Of The Century, and The Superior Foes of Spider-Man Vol. 3; they are...superior to this, so funny and original.In 'Foes' Spencer has a clean slate for the inner lives of minor league super villains. Here he takes on heroes that have been around for 35+ years, and works to make them familiar to those just coming off this summer's 'Ant-Man' movie. So Cassie Lang reverts to the first couple paragraphs of her Wikipedia entry - she goes from 'Young Avenger killed and later resurrected by Doctor Doom (yeah, that happened)' back to 'victim girl.' Early on Scott thinks 'this is why my daughter is cooler than yours' - not because she is a self-sacrificing superhero, but because she thinks Battle Royale is better than the Hunger Games.Anyway, I'd originally thought that I should give the second volume of Superior Foes a 4 star rating and therefore this should get 3 - but that means it is 'ok' and this book is better than OK. Buy the others first and then, unless you have cash flow problems or an inflexible fondness for previous versions of Ant-Man and Stature, buy this - fun stuff.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Ant-Man on the Move... By Clarence A. Dillard, Jr. After a pretty hard life in the Big Apple, Scott Lang follows his daughter to sunny Miami. Lang hasn't always been there for Cassie, what with being in jail and all, so he decides to stay close after his ex-wife relocates to the Sunshine state. The second Ant-Man hopes to capitalize on his name recognition and he starts up a new security business. Along with a fellow reformed super-villain named the Grizzly (who mistakingly tries to kill Scott after believing he is the Ant-Man who sent him to the slammer!), things seem to be going great at this new business (except for the customers who mistake him for an exterminator...) But Scott should know not to look on the bright side for too long as a trio of his old foes has arrived on the scene, gunning for revenge. Just don't call them his arch-enemies, okay? These baddies do have a reputation to uphold! I liked this series. It did a fairly decent job playing off of the events that occurred in last year's Ant-Man movie. Author Nick Spencer has Lang be the narrator for this volume and I think that was a great idea. Spencer seems to really be able to get into our anti-hero's head and with that being said, I really can hear actor Paul Rudd's voice throughout this book. This Ant-Man has all the mannerisms, quirks, and foibles of the actor who is set to portray the diminutive character for a number of upcoming Marvel films. It was brilliant. There are just two little things that I think are missing from this series. The first thing is that I think Miami was a little bit of a mistake. In the Ant-Man film, the lead character lives and operates in San Francisco. Now, I know that in the comics all of the characters operate out of New York and that's where this story opens up. But I also know that Marvel wants the books to more closely resemble the films. So, instead of Scott pick up stakes and move to Miami, Spencer should have him set up in the Golden Gate area. The other issue I had was an editorial problem. This series only ran for 5 issues and an annual. The short run is all likely due to the massive shakeup of Secret Wars. But Second-Chance Man only contains issues 1-5! Where is the annual at? Is it going to be reprinted somewhere else? And more importantly, why isn't it contained in this volume? This was a great book, though a little incomplete. Hopefully, after Secret Wars, we'll continue the adventures of Scott and Cassie Lang. I gotta say, if Marvel doesn't return to the adventures of this Ant-Man, they'll be coming up 'short' on a perfect opportunity involving a fascinating character. Worth Consuming Rating: 9.5 out of 10 stars.

From reading the blurb, I expected something pretty creepy and, let me tell you, I was NOT disappointed. Ms. Dawson draws you into a world that seems to exist a side-step away from ours and the mythology she's created to support it is very well thought-out and fresh. There were whole sections of this book where I found myself holding my breath, so lost in the story that I was helpless to do anything but turn the page and keep reading. If you're looking for something dark, eerie, and strangely beautiful, this is the book for you!I cannot wait to see what Ms. Dawson comes up with next, because she's thrown down a serious gauntlet with SERVANTS OF THE STORM. Just an amazing book all around,

I gave it five stars so clearly I'm in the "I loved it" category, but I can't think of the last time a book pulled the rug out from under me in the last chapter like this one did. I lay awake half the night thinking about it. If there were a sequel available for me to read RIGHT NOW, that wouldn't be so bad. But there isn't. And I want to cry a little from frustration.I see from perusing other reviews on Goodreads that some people had assumed this was a psychological thriller, and so were disappointed when it took a supernatural turn. Although there are elements of psychological thriller to the story -- Dovey spends the first part of the book coming down off heavy medication and her memory is unreliable at best -- the story is more a cross between urban fantasy and horror (which I guess is where gothic fiction often sits).There are supernatural beasties, mostly demons or their various offspring. And the horror elements are a combination of the creeping sense that something was rotten just beneath the shiny surface, and the way the book leaves you gasping, like the freaky scene right at the end of a horror movie where all is revealed. I was reminded of Silent Hill by parts of it, if you're familiar with those games (and that movie) -- the way you'd turn a corner and something that looked shabby but more-or-less normal would peel back and reveal a slice of something deeply disturbing.Other than the amazing atmosphere, the thing that made this book for me was Dovey. I love how complex a character she is. She is deeply flawed, in that she has a one-track mind (and may or may not have been dangerously insane before the antipsychotics). Her goal, to find out what happened to her friend Carly a year before, is what inspires her to stop taking her medication, and it's what drives her to do pretty much everything from that point on.Sometimes her actions are almost daft, the way she dives into trouble after having been warned of the danger. The ease with which she resorts to violence as the drugs go out of her system is both a warning sign and, I have to admit, deeply satisfying (because who doesn't love a tough main character?). But her clear and enduring love for her friend, and her natural distrust of the gorgeous but suspicious Isaac -- the one providing all the warnings of danger in the first place -- are the cause of her recklessness. I can respect that.There is a bit of a love triangle here, in the typical YA way: Baker is the childhood friend with a longstanding crush, and Isaac is a little bit of a bad boy ... but not that bad, really, given the other YA bad boys out there. He came across as more of a bookworm who's fallen in with a bad crowd to me, which made me like him more than I like most bad boys. Either way, the romance is definitely a subplot, a bit of extra spice, which is how I personally like it.If you like paranormal stories with a serious creep-factor and a dark conspiracy, then this is the book for you. Five stars....now, where's my sequel?

Don't Drink the Water… By Renee Given the review blurbs on the cover using adjectives like, 'strange,' 'lyrical' and 'haunting,' I expected something along the lines of The Night Circus. Unfortunately I found ‘Servants of the Storm’ neither 'lyrical' nor 'haunting.' What I got instead was a story that begins with a potentially interesting premise and quickly spirals into the realm of the ridiculous. (Demon servants are drugging the groundwater? Demons can't use cell phones?) Even though Dovey lampshades this kind of thing several times, I got the feeling that the author was making up the rules as she went along, and that's never a hallmark of successful world building. The first person present tense narrative is used to advantage two or three times to enhance the unreliable narrator effect, but that wears out pretty quickly.There are other issues, too. Throughout the novel secondary characters who should be more engaging than they are come and go without leaving so much as an emotional ripple. Plot elements are introduced, never to be resolved. The last third of the book depends on a chain of incredible coincidences, encounters with complete strangers who are unrelated to the action, and obscure clues that Sherlock Holmes couldn't connect the dots on.While some of this could be chalked up to the author's attempt at telling a tale with an unreliable narrator, the groundwork isn't laid well enough to make for a satisfying payoff. The entire story lurches to a halt in the final pages, feeling something like a TV show trying to wrap up a season with a cliffhanger after one of the main actors quit at the last minute.

SF mystery involving illegal racing By Johanna Draper Carlson The Fuse: Gridlock is more obviously science fiction than the first volume, The Russia Shift. This time around, detectives Klem and Ralph are investigating a body found during a gridlocking race. That’s when spacesuited daredevils illegally compete on maglev bikes across the solar arrays that run the space station. Very high-tech, although the motivations are universal, regardless of the future setting.The Fuse isn’t flashy, but it’s consistently good entertainment with solid, storytelling illustration and dialogue full of meaning and presence. It’s precisely the kind of thing comics should be — a glimpse into another possible world, one with realistic personalities experiencing events beyond the usual. The art and writing work together well to build new possibilities, and the skill behind them doesn’t announce itself unless you go looking for it.In this case, the mystery turns twisty almost immediately. The racer’s body turns out to be that of the sport’s spokesperson, who was competing under an alias; she’s also the daughter of a privileged family. Then they find drugs near her corpse, which sends them into the Fuse’s slum, Smacktown. Plus, gridlocking, although illegal and very risky, is immensely popular, and there was going to be a huge money-making deal for broadcast rights, adding another potential motive.As the detectives pursue their case, we get to see more of how this on-the-edge society works, both physically, as they investigate the station rigging, and politically, with various factions holding their territory. I really like this procedural for the way clues are naturally revealed and the way the setting becomes more real as the story unfolds. It feels dense, in a good way, with lots of information. There is a large cast of officers, lawyers, medical examiners, suspects, and others that are somehow tied to the story and it's main characters. Each character moves the story along, sometimes a scene, sometimes more. As the story progresses, you have twists, turns, reveals, dead ends, and surprises. The writing was excellent and kept me interested. The art, while not my favorite, works well here. The characters have unique qualities and it's not easy to get them mixed up. I'm quite looking forward to the next volume and I'll be rereading this one and volume one again soon.

The writing is better than that artwork By Paul This graphic novel starts with a race between sci-fi snowmobiles in space around a floating station, televised though illegal. When they come across a dead racer, the plot takes off.Despite this being second in a series, the world-building, or rather the description of such, is excellent; don’t feel like I need to see the first to get it. Also interesting was watching a crime scene investigation, now so usual on TV, in micro-grav. And despite the sci-fi setting we’ve got typical police detectives, with the typical hard-bitten banter, though with a German accent; funnily enough, one of the narc cops is obviously French. Lawyers, corporations, and slums also feature, just like Earth. And there’s regular shuttle service, so it’s not too far away; Mars is also mentioned a few times as possibly the Australia of its time, as in prison.The plot flows from murder to drugs to terrorism and back. I don’t know if each issue has different writers, but at the beginning there was a lots of clichés in the dialogue. It also annoyed me that it took me a while to realize why the lead detective called her black male partner “Marlene,” but that’s just me. A blurb called the artwork “stark,” and that’s a good description, except from me that’s not a compliment. Still, overall it’s a fun read, a well-done mystery for a graphic novel.
