Brad must trust in family and friends as he seeks answers to the riddle and the larger mystery that waits patiently beneath the forest floor. I found the story to be interesting, though there were some definite overused cliches. Ballister did a very good job developing his aliens and alien cultures. The ending promised more adventures for the young protagonists. Could have used some more exposure of the alien races.

Your business should produce both time and money, not just money. Making Money shows business owners how to make more money in less time, get back to the passion that brought them into business in the first place, and build a business they can enjoy for decades. Do you want to get off the treadmill? Do you have freedom? Read Making Money Is Killing Your Business and build a business you'll love that also gives you a life of Significance. Making Money Is Killing Your Business: Second Edition: How to Build a Business You'll Love and Have a Life, Too, by Chuck Blakeman

Review #1 Rated Business Book of the Year - The National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB), which is the largest business organization in the US, rated Making Money Is Killing Your Business as the #1 Business Book for 2010. See their release on The Seven Best Business Books of 2010 from the Source below: --NFIB - 7 Best Business Books of 2010 -Bookzone Publishing Corporation, Beijing, China. Wow. Chuck Blakeman is clear. When reviewing Making Money is Killing Your Business, the biggest urge I had was just to cut and paste whole sections of it, Here's a sample: I think businesses should grow up...I don't mean it would be nice if it happened. I mean we should all, everyone of us, expect our businesses to grow up and start giving back to us and to the world around us. We should assume that at some point our business would move from survival right through success to Significance. Nobody would argue with me that we should intend for our children to grow up, leave home, and become grownups we could enjoy for decades, but when was the last time we had a similar conversation about our businesses? It's normal for children to grow up, so why isn't it normal for businesses to do the same thing? Frankly, we’re in charge of both of them at birth, and if you’ve had kids, you’ll know that you’ve got more control over the maturity of your business than the maturity of your kids. Chuck does more than offer a simple paradigm shift. He shows how to do it, and shares examples of clients who walked that walk with him. Real crisp, concise examples, including the client’s words and actionable steps that you can do...today. Given the clarity of writing and the proven, doable steps that Chuck shares in Making Money is Killing Your Business, it deserves sales like Good to Great by Jim Collins. That would put sales for Chuck's book at around 3-4 million. That sounds right. --Zane Safrit Book Reviews Making Money is Killing Your Business has been translated to Mandarin and is being distributed in mainland China. It has also been translated to Spanish for availability in all Spanish-speaking countries. --Amazon - Books

By mwhigherground I have a week's worth of actionable, trackable results oriented work to do on my business, and I'm motivated, with this ToolBox of a book, I've been able to create a roadmap that I'm excited about following. When I bought my business, I remember thinking how fun it would be; I'm there again, after just last month thinking I should "sell this and get onto a new fun thing", and in the "only way out sell the business" crises a friend recommended I read (and suggested I would love) Making Money is Killing your Business.I'm a busy person, and love having a challenge in front of me, but most times I'm distracted by the shiny things...the new things...without a great plan. Three legit takeaways from this book: I won't be the production guy, My Business should make money when I'm on vacation, My quest to significance is bigger than the work I do at my business; I am on the starting blocks after 15 years of owning a 20 year business to go from Success to Significance by going to work on my business. In two years I'll be walking into a business, that can run without me to give vision and do the things I love, while getting a check from a business that's working for me.I just ordered 2 books to give to my dad and a friend, that will become my accountability and sounding boards on my ventures in the future...I love my family and life too much not to change! I hope you find the same vision and freedom as I have.

I just finished this book and it's revolutionary and truly paradigm changing for any business owner who's stuck in a rut. In this book you learn how to raise your business, not unlike raising your children. Your children and your business should both grow up and it should take a heck of a lot less time for your business to do so than your child!Chuck provides highly actionable content to teach you how to lead your business and create both money AND time. He teaches how to bring your business from infancy to maturity, and how to do it in 3 to 5 years to boot. I recommend this book to any small business owner.

The mittlestand, family businesses that are homegrown, anchored in the locality, with a long term multi generational perspective, focused on creating wealth. Particularly “Hidden champions” opened my eyes.So I was very taken with “Making money is killing your business”.Time to grow upIt is time for a lot of business owners to grow up. It is time for businesses to grow up. Chuck Blakeman has an interesting perspective on start ups and small business. Too many do not grow up and you have created your own job, not your own business. The tyranny of the urgentHe refers to it as the tyranny of the urgent versus the priority of the important.Urgent is reactive, short term and defensive and is the treadmill of making money. Important is proactive and long term. It is about making money versus building a business.WealthIt comes down to the definition of wealth, which is the ability to choose what do with your time and your money. Can you?Are you the main producer/deliverer by choice or necessity?Does the business make money when you are somewhere else? Are you making decision based on where you are, or where you want to be?Chuck blames the focus on exit and selling your business. In his view that is similar to selling your children. Why would you invest all that love, time and passion to sell it off, instead of creating an ongoing stream of long term wealth?Time and money are at a premiumGallup research tells that the average business owners work 52 hours a week (hose are the lazy or lucky ones). They work 6 days a week, some have zero vacation and when they do over 50% still answer work related e-mails and calls. Only 3% of business owners create 86% of the revenue in the USA. So time and money are at a premium. How can you earn more money in less time? Are you on the treadmill?According to Blakeman there are seven stages of businessStage 1 Concept and start up; the trick here is to move as quick as possible from dreaming to doing. Dreaming includes thinking, researching and planning. The number one indication of success is the speed of execution.Stage 2 Survival; you have burned a lot of fuel, time is grinding, sales are difficult and you are focused on making money. You are now on treadmill of urgent.Stage 3 Subsistence; you can pay your bills and are making money. There is little time to relax and your focus is on keeping it going. If you don’t watch it you are back in stage 2.Stage 4 Stability; you are making a net profit and you have freedom money to spend. You can choose what you can do with your money. Time is still a big issue. You have created yourself a well paid job. You are an employee of yourself. An hostage to your own business.Stage 1 to 4 are treadmills. You focused on the wrong question, which is “How do I make money”. Making money is NOT an empowering vision. You need to get off the business treadmill! The basics of a mature business are that you are not the main producer and it makes money when you are not there. Which moves us to stage 5 to 7.Stage 5 Success; you have shifted your mindset to building a business versus building a job. You are moving from production to process. This is where Chuck introduces “freedom mapping”, which is a version of process mapping that brings clarity to what people are supposed to do and how it fits into the overall customer delivery process. It makes things consistent, repeatable and replicable.Stage 6 Significance; you role has shifted to becoming a leader and you are less and less involved in direct delivery and production. You business is starting to make an impact. You are free. However, leadership is in place, leadership is not in charge. It is vision and guidance, which means you still need to keep an eye on the business and guide management.Which brings you to the last stage. Stage 7 Succession. This is where leadership is in charge and you have ingrained a culture that embraces you vision. Only vision. You are truly free. The key questionWhat is stopping you to get to stage 7? Chuck thinks it is only one reason. You are not asking the right question. How do you build a mature business and when do I want to get there? What do you need to do?It is very simple. Intentionality. Make the decision, put a date on it and go public. Going public changes everything (the Hawthorne effect (also referred to as the observer effect) is a type of reactivity in which individuals modify or improve an aspect of their behaviour in response to their awareness of being observed). As a business owner you owe to yourself to try. Why would you not? How could you not? Particularly if you know that retirement as we know it now is bankrupt. Create your own retirement on your own terms.Pick a date. You now have a clock ticking in your head. Define what does your business look like at maturity. Consider your lifetime goals (why, why, why, what is the transformative purpose). Consider the time and money required to create your ideal lifestyle.More money, less timeNow back to basics I. More money in less time. How to increase revenue and continually reduce time to bring in that revenue. The freedom questionsIs this (whatever you are doing right now), the best use of your time? If this is not the highest and best use of your time, how do you ensure you do it for the last time? Those two questions need to be asked constantly in all parts of the business. Parts such as leadership, business development, operation and delivery, financial management, customer and employee satisfaction and to community and family impact.Systems and processes are the key. What is your yield per hour now? What should it be? Do the activities you are involved with now, warrant the yield per hour you want?Back to basics IIBack to the big why. Why are doing this? Why do you matter? Why does your business matter? Why is it significant? What do you want to be remembered by? Purpose and passion. Using time, money and energy to create significance. Every book on strategy we covered on Bookbuzz always boils down to that question. See http://www.bookbuzz.biz/the-strategist/ for example. You then need a strategic plan. You don’t need a business plan. Chuck is not a fan of business plans. Planning does not create, movement does. And the size of commitment to the intent. Straight from Do! by Kevin Kelly . Develop a two page strategic plan with key milestones and with an action plan attached. You review that strategic plan every day. You need to be able to recite that plan verbatim any time, any place within a maximum of 3 minutes. In the meantime the business maturity date is ticking in the background……You need then set of outside eyes. A group of mentors. An advisory board. Make sure you are not alone. In the book Chuck Blakeman gives a wide range of toolsets to figure out your lifetime goals, strategic plan, your leadership profile, etc. But the most important tool is the freedom mapping. Your franchise handbook. Your process descriptions. If you do one thing, do that. Map your overall business process and then break it down.Stop playing officeBuild a business engine. Create wealth, not money. Become a master of your own destiny. Become intentional, set the date, tell the world and move.

Ryan and Chris need money. Badly. And they have been looking to expand their sexual horizons. So this secret kink auction seems almost too good to be true. Ryan is the perfect little subby twink - there must be someone in the audience willing to pony up for him. Like that guy at the end of the second row - the tall one with the wide-brimmed hat, tight jeans, checkered shirt, and the leather boots, leaning up against the wall. He seems pretty interested. He even seems down with Chris's request that he be allowed to watch the proceedings. Even if they start to get a bit rough... *** “Fifteen hundred!” All the heads turned to look at who was desperate enough to double the bid so quickly. A man in tight jeans and a flannel shirt leaned against the wall, watching Ryan with an intense expression from beneath the brim of a worn cowboy hat. It was difficult to make out his features, or even his age, from this distance, but from his raised hand it was clear he was the high roller. The stranger seemed to notice his gaze, and inclined his head ever-so-slightly. Ryan swallowed hard. “Alright, fifteen hundred! Going once, going twice, sold to the gentleman in the second row! Can I get your name, sir?” The stranger smiled and tilted his hat back. “Name’s Brendon.” The crowd parted as he strolled over to the stage. The distinct thudding of his boots echoed in the sudden silence. The crowd stared in disbelief as he handed Master Coxx a roll of bills. “You and Ryan are welcome to a backroom – or whatever else it is you might need. Master Chris, please follow them to the back,” instructed Master Coxx after counting the money. Ryan climbed down from the stage and Brendon grasped his arm with a firm grip, leading him in the direction of the backrooms. Ryan was relieved, and a bit pleased, to see that Brendon was young, probably in his early thirties. He was even more pleased to discover that his mysterious buyer was shockingly attractive. Ryan had never been to Texas, but if all the cowboys looked like this, he might need to rethink his travel options in the future! Brendon was a tall man, with broad shoulders and medium-length hair bleached blond at the tips by the sun. His figure was clearly visible through the tight denim pants, and if his muscled thighs were any indication, it was clear the man spent much of his time on horseback. The sleeves of his red flannel shirt were rolled up, revealing a pair of tanned and bulging forearms that Chris had an immediate impulse to reach out and touch.

They heard about a club that was having an auction. Ryan volunteer to be auctioned off. Chris insisted that he be present to watch everything. Yum!! Brendon wins Ryan in the kinky auction. Then the three men go to a room in the back of the club for a good time. This is my first book by this author. I loved the story concept and the characters. It was a quick read with lots steam. "Wink, Wink". I hope that there is a future book with these three characters in it. I will look for more books by this author.

A solid follow up to the first book By Ms. Just One More Book ***Warning: Contains spoilers from book one***Book two begins immediately where book one left off. Fran has escaped Impervious, finding that epoch is indeed real. Now above ground on earth, she has been reunited with both her mom and dad, as well as her old mentor Chan. In their village she has met several "outsiders" including one of the original founding Superiors named Ben, his wife Ema, and their son Ret, the first child born on the outside since the destruction of earth. While Fran is relieved to be free of Impervious, and ecstatic to be reunited with her parents she once thought dead, she is haunted by both the fate of her friend Pete, as well as the truth of the epoch being kept from the citizens of Impervious. Fran wants to descend underground once again to spread the truth to the citizens, but then is alerted to the diabolical reason she is unable to. The reason no outsider has returned to tell the people the truth. But there is one person whom has never set foot in impervious, never been accountable, that can save the citizens of Impervious. The second book in this series, while still slow in the beginning, does show progress in this author's writing skills. I really liked the characters of Pete and Ret, but the character of Fran got on my nerves quite often. Although she has a good heart, and is trying to do the right thing, her impulsive actions at every turn went from being brave to bordering on just plain stupid. The plot was well thought out with just enough twists and turns to keep things very interesting. I think the author still needs to work a bit on her pacing, but considering she's still a new author, it's more than understandable. Overall, I think this book is a solid 3.5 stars, and I'm looking forward to reading the last book in the series to see how everything ends.

The author does a good job of giving you enough details to not be totally lost, but the story in book 2 is much better when following book 1.We catch up to Fran, not long after she escaped Impervious. She's adjusting to her new life and family, but she's still concerned for those left behind and trapped inside unknowingly. After learning that she may not be as free as she thought, her former mentor and her devise a plan to go back inside and save everyone from the dark grip of the Council.I really love the characters that Heather Letto has created in this series. Fran is everything you want in a main character. She has enough attitude to have a backbone and do what needs to be done, but not so much that she can't be vulnerable at times. She does a great job of creating secondary characters, also, that don't all feel like the same personality. Each one is a little different and their personalities shine through instead of blending together. There's some great description in the world around Fran and you can almost picture yourself there with our main character.I especially like how Heather weaves in traces of romance and Christianity without beating you over the head with it. The romance feels real and believable without painting an unrealistic fairy-tale experience. While this story points to the Christian story, it's not so overwhelming that I have no problems saying this book will be enjoyed by anyone. The whole series has just struck me as feeling real, which is nice for a change. I love dystopian future stories, but it's refreshing to read a story where you could actually see the events happening some day. The author does a great job of making the story feel believable, honest, and tangible. If there's any area that I would have to nitpick (and that's all this really is), it would be that I prefer a bit more action throughout the stories I read. I felt like this book starts a little slow while the groundwork is being laid, but then ramps up nicely about halfway through. I was left on the edge of my seat by the end wondering what was going to happen next, but the first half paces along at a slower pace while we get a grasp on where Fran is now. I debated taking off a star for this, but ultimately felt like I couldn't fault the author for my tastes in books. While I like a bit more action, others will be perfectly happy with the pace and the building tension without contact that this writing style offers. The Ascension series is ultimately a well crafted and suspenseful story even if it is light on the physical confrontations.I would definitely recommend this series to any fans of dystopian future stories. There's something for everyone here and I cannot wait to see how the author will wrap up this series.* I received this book in exchange for an honest review. My thoughts and my opinions are my own. *

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Fran is free at last! By Nancy Allen (The Avid Reader) I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.Well Fran did it! She found the way out. Go Fran! She has learned that everything that she has been taught her whole life about the outside was totally wrong. She has found her parents and other mid-lifers and they are still alive and well. Her old mentor Chan is there and she is so glad to see him again.Fran is so happy to be out and being free of that place and the people who are in control. After everything settles down and Fran has gone through her detoxing she starts exploring her new world and learning all about life on the outside and how different it is than living underground. The water and the food taste so different and better than the food and water underground. Fran loves her freedom but she is so bored with nothing to do since she is still learning how everything is done in her new world.Even though Fran loves being on the outside and having her parents back she misses all her friends and brother back in Impervious. She also feels guilty because she is out and free and they are still stuck in there. So Fran, Chan and some of the other folks make a plan to that will hopefully get all the others out too. Their one and only way of saving the others comes in the form of this very hot guy called Retter or Ret. Ret was born on the outside and has never been underground in the city of Impervious. So therefor is not on their radar. Can Ret make it into Impervious without getting caught? Can he save the Rebels or the unaccountable? Or will Ret get caught by the Superiors?I loved reading both Impervious & Implanted and can’t wait for the next book to find out more about Fran, Pete, Ret and all of the other characters too. I loved the world that the author created in the Ascension series and can’t wait to get my hands on more of it.If you love a good dystopian book then you are going to fall in love with both Impervious & Implanted. But I warn you that you just might need to get out that box of Kleenex because you are going to need them. The author makes you feel what Fran, Pete and Ret are all feeling and sometimes you will need those tissues because you are hurting for Fran and sometimes you may need them because you are laughing your head off because sometimes Fran can be very witty. Either way you are going to love this series. Fran is one strong young lady with a great big heart.

The Dairy Good Cookbook is a celebration of the world of the 47,000 dairy farm families and their contributions to American life. The 115 recipes showcase the taste of dairy in many forms, from cheese to yogurt, milk, and butter. The book gives a unique perspective through recipes and photographs of a day in the life of dairy farms, cows, and the farmers who bring us our dairy.Dairy farming is one of the hardest types of farming there is, and these farmers take a tremendous sense of pride in their work. Ninety-five percent of the 49,000 dairy farms in America are family owned, and many families have continued to own their farms for generations. Milk is in their blood. The Dairy Good Cookbook showcases the lives of these hard-working farmers across the country. This book celebrates not only the love that people have for dairy foods, but it also pays tribute to the dairy farmers—and even the cows that make all this great cuisine possible. The book is divided into six sections organized by a day in the life of a dairy farmer, beginning with Sunrise and ending at Sundown, along with other special days in the year (including holidays and family get-togethers). Each chapter highlights one of six different types of dairy cows and includes profiles of both large and small dairy producers. Nothing soothes the soul quite like a warm bit of Macaroni & Cheese, Apple Cheddar Pizza, Apricot Dijon Pork Chops, or a taste of Dairyman’s Chocolate Cake. The 115 recipes include dishes from the archives of Dairy Management, Inc. as well as family favorites from farmers themselves. Tips on cooking with dairy are included along with family-friendly recipes and myriad photographs of the food and farms. Unlike other foods that we consume, where our milk originates is probably less than 100 miles from our homes. Dairy is still a small, community-based business, and dairy farmers are the original environmentalists since their livelihood depends on the health and well-being of their animals and where they live. This cookbook has the endorsement and support of Dairy Management, Inc., the umbrella organization to which all of America’s dairy farmers belong. Carla Hall from The Chew has contributed the foreword, and it will be released in early June for National Dairy Month.

I started reading it as soon as I got it. I think its a great cookbook and the stories are interesting. Good photography also. I would recommend this for anyone who enjoys cooking with dairy products, and who doesn't?

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. ... I ordered this cookbook exactly what it would be like. I rarely order books I haven't looked at ... By chris I wasn't quite sure when I ordered this cookbook exactly what it would be like. I rarely order books I haven't looked at before but I was very pleasantly surprised when I opened it up. There are many pictures of recipes and most importantly, pictures of the families that live on the dairy farms. Oh, and I can't forget the pictures of the cows! As the description says, there are over a 100 recipes and again I was surprised at the variety versatility of the dairy products used. The chapters are divided into categories such as Sunrise Breakfast, Midday Lunch, After-Chores Snacks, and so forth. I have many recipes marked. Hats off to the dairy farmers for all their hard work and dedication to make sure the consumers get the best products available-something that I took for granted before I got this wonderful book.

When Cliff Knowles was in the FBI, he was an agent's agent, a relentless pursuer of criminals. After he retired and became a private investigator, he swore he'd never help a defense attorney free a murder suspect, certainly not one who shot an FBI agent point blank in front of witnesses while yelling obscenities. But then he never expected that an FBI agent he worked with would be the defendant. For the first time, Cliff tells the story in his own words. Cliff must face the scorn of his former colleagues for turning to the "dark side" of criminal defense while trying to keep his wife from falling into the abyss of postpartum depression. When he is attacked by muggers he escapes more or less unscathed ... or thinks he does. Once again, Cliff finds himself putting his life on the line.

Review "... well-crafted, with attention to detail." Bassocantor, Amazon top 50 reviewer

About the Author Russell Atkinson served as an FBI Special Agent for twenty-five years, where he specialized in high-technology crimes in Silicon Valley. He was the first to investigate Raj Rajaratnam, the high-tech hedge fund manager who was convicted of massive insider trading in 2011. He was the case agent on the first federal prosecution in California under the Economic Espionage Act. He worked on several high-profile kidnapping cases and has arrested murderers and drug dealers. After retiring from the FBI he practiced law. With degrees in mathematics and law he worked for many high-tech firms in the computer industry including IBM, Fairchild Semiconductor, and AOL. He served as President of the American Cryptogram Association and has written extensively on cryptographic topics. He was Head Cryptographer for the movie The Red Machine. Now retired, he lives in Silicon Valley and spends time with his interests: running, geocaching, guitar, cryptography, and, of course, writing.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Another Well-Crafted Adventure with Cliff Knowles By Bassocantor GUT SHOT is a little different than the other Cliff Knowles mysteries. This time, the theme is not so technical in nature. Geocaching doesn't really play a major part in the story, unlike some of the prior books. I think this is a good thing, since not all readers want to see massive technical details. This story will appeal to a more general audience. As with the prior Cliff Knowles adventures, the story is well-crafted, with attention to detail. If you're familiar with the genre, "police procedural," you will feel right at home. Lots of details about clues, who said what, who went where, etc. Of course, Cliff Knowles is once again falsely accused of a diabolical crime. Not murder this time, but almost as bad. (This guy does tend to be accused a lot!)The author includes several diagrams to illustrate the crime scene--in this case, the barracks at a FBI training center at Camp Parks, in Dublin, California (See photo below.)It seems to me that the author's strong point is his ability to write realistic dialogue that is faithful to the story, but yet still interesting. He has a knack for understanding how people really interact. Not sure how he does that--maybe the author's expereince as an FBI agent? In any case, his talent for telling a good story makes the book more interesting. All in all, GUT SHOT is another fun read produced Russell Atkinson. Thanks for adding the crime scene photos. Recommend!Review copy of book courtesy of the author

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Just Exceptional! By Jerry This is just an outstanding book. I have read all of the author's works beginning when I first stumbled across his first book, Held For Ransom, which is the story of the head man at the San Francisco office of the FBI. I understand Mr. Atkinson is a retired Agent and that shows in all of his books and is what makes them so interesting. While it is obvious they are fiction he blends in real incidents and places so you can almost picture the stories as being real. I really enjoyed the way he placed this story at the Alameda County Sheriff's Office Firearms Range and put in the story the fact the TV show Mythbusters was filming there. I know for a fact they do film there so that really helped with making the storyline all the more believable. It reminded me of how in his last book he worked in references to the real life UNABOM case which I understand was one of the FBI's greatest success stories of modern times. If you like crime stories and are looking for ones that make you feel like they could be really happening this is a great story to choose.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Another great effort By Jeffery R Singewald Another great effort from this author. Good plot line and ongoing development of characters within the work of fiction. Would have enjoyed the integration of geo-caching hobby a bit more in this book but even so I would definitely recommend this book to others. I especially enjoy the locality references as a bay area native as it brings me a bit closer to the story and plot .
