"OMG! I loved this so much! Kit Scarbrough has a wonderful writing style, a flair for characters and a fantastic ear for dialogue. Arcadia is a fascinating world and I fell in love with the whole Sherwood family. So will you!" – Sally Bend, Bending the Bookshelf It's the year 2021. The movement called Gender Shift has propelled Arcadia from an obscure island chain in the Pacific Northwest to power and prominence as the world's first Female Led Nation. There, males become the forcibly feminized brides of dominant women who "want it all" – family and career. And with docile boywives to keep house and raise children, they can have it all. Ambitious, strong-willed Cleo Sherwood is on track to bcome Arcadia's next vice-president. Her transgender sons have come of debutante age, attractive "belle-boys," eligible for courtship and marriage. Alex, Candy and Victory must learn to navigate a brave new world of female authority and femboy submission. But what happens when a femboy falls for a guy? Cleo's brainy, rebellious she-son Alex wants to be a doctor, not a homemaker. When romance enters his life in the unexpected form of handsome Barry Beaumont, his repressed feminine feelings are aroused. Will Alex assert his ebbing maleness or surrender to love? Will he pursue his dream or submit to a future of aprons and estrogen?Welcome to the new 1950s household, Arcadia-style, where boys become brides and "wedlock" has a whole new meaning! Themes: Coming of age, transgender, feminization, romance, family, parents and older teens.Rating: PG-13 for descriptions of anatomy and language. NO sex scenes.

A truly remarkable gender-swapped retelling of Jane Austen's classic By Sally Bend In Part 1 of the story, Scarbrough introduces us to the family of Cleo Sherwood - Mayor, Vice Presidential Candidate, and Househead of a Female Led household. She is happily married to her pregnant wifeboy Jennifer (thanks to a uterus implant), and a proud mother to her four sheboy children, Victory, Alex, Candy, and Erin (who are kept young and soft through a combination of puberty blockers and chastity tubes). Erin, the youngest, is a bookworm obsessed with fairy tales and princesses; Candy is little princess, enthusiastic about his transition and in love with everything frilly and feminine; while Victory and Alex are the most reluctant of the children, rebelling against their impending transitions. For the two oldest sheboys, it is less a rebellion against anything physical and more sociological. Part of the appeal in Arcadia is that it is a gender-swapped version of 1950s America. Sheboys are expected to become polite, docile house wifeboys, completely dependent and legally owned by their Househead. If they want to have a career, it will be as a secretary, a grade school teacher, or a waitress - and only until their implanted uterus is artificially impregnated. With strong memories of their lives as boys back on the mainland, Victory dreams of being a scientist, while Alex longs to become a doctor, careers which are denied to them by their newfound gender.Scarbrough does a remarkable job of building an entire society in which we can both believe and even envy. It is not a perfect society, but it is a progressive one with some very open-minded ideals. Professional women across the world have flocked to Arcadia, embracing the opportunity to escape glass ceilings and sexual harassment, while transgender individuals have done the same, accepting the restraints upon their future in exchange for being openly accepted and appreciated. While there are some rumors of forced feminizations, Arcadia is not a world of sinister science-fiction conspiracies. Sheboys are accepted, but are still in the minority, and less than 10% of all marriages are Female Led marriages. In addition to introducing us to the world and the Sherwood family, this opening chapter also sets up the budding romance of Alex, who fills the role of Jane Austen's Mary in the story (while Victory serves as the gender-swapped version of Elizabeth).

It’s about four brothers (three teens and one preteen) who are now sisters. They have their original plumbing (for now) but their mother makes them wear their hair long and dress like girls. They resist, of course, but gradually they become more female than male. They live in Arcadia, an imaginary country on an island chain in the Pacific Northwest, where “Gender Shift” has propelled women into power. This is fantasy on a very high level. The world of Arcadia is totally realized (and I look forward to finding out more about it in future books). It’s also realistic. For instance, only about 10% of the males on Arcadia become “femboys.” The rest of the men go about their business and have traditional marriages and family lives. As for the others (like Alex, Candy, Victory and Erin), they have to learn to become sweet and pretty and submissive, suitable partners for dominant females. I could go on and on and not do this story justice. If you’re into mtf or forced fem fiction, this is a MUST!

I enjoyed it; it's well written and pretty well edited. It's quite short though, there's a lot of previews of other books toward the end. One other thing I didn't like is that the story doesn't end, it's one of those where the author just stops right in the middle of the action and you have to buy the next book to continue. I am not a fan of that and almost dropped my rating to two stars instead of three because of it, if I could give it two and a half I would.

This was probably the most intense of all the Renegade books to date. The sex was intense, the story was intense and the last two chapters gave me the shivers. The beginning of Assasin gives us a recap of things that have happened between Lissa and Ian along with what has happened to Lissa and Ian. Excellent overview. In Assasin we have to worry about what the enemy has taken and now know from stealing Ian's laptop. Also we know understand Alik's role in all this and I can tell you in this story I loathe him even more.Ian must go to Salvation's headquarters and figure out if his cover has been blown. Lissa keeps having memories of Alik, but as soon as they appear they disappear. She doesn't understand why. Then Alik gives her a command she's not supposed to refuse. Kill Ian.Assassin diggers deeper, gives the feels deeper and waiting for the final book is going to be hell.*Received advanced copy of this book for an honest review*

It was well done, but it was like watching an episode on TV. And while I understand that this was author's intent, this is going to turn out to be a pretty costly kindle read. I feel like I'm now invested and will continue, but after the whole series is finished, there is no doubt in my mind that this will be released as a bundle for less than I paid for it. These authors are training their readers to wait.

With Lissa back with Ian things always seem to be getting better for them until she has her trigger points and calls Alik every time Ian leave the house to go to his salvation meanings and calls Alik! And everytime she talks to Alik it triggers something in her that he has brainwashed her with and in the end is assigned to do something she does not want to do! She is forced to do something towards the end of the book to betray Ian and goes on the run! Alik is also trying to get Hassan's girlfriend to do something that she is not wanting to do either and things are starting to backfire on him! Cannot wait until the final edition to find out what happens with all of the characters in this book!

When a killer storm unexpectedly hits Manhattan, seventeen-year-old Lilah Stellow’s dad insists that she and her younger sister, Flori, take refuge at their cabin in the mountains. But instead of joining them with the experimental drug that keeps Lilah alive, he disappears just as news reports name him as a prime suspect in an act of ecoterrorism.

As days pass without her medicine, Lilah finds herself teetering on the edge, caring for her sister, and growing increasingly certain they’re being watched. In her search for answers, Lilah is thrown into the center of a mystery involving an off-the-grid research facility and finds herself drawn in by Daniel, an intriguing boy who is the son of the lead scientist. As she dares to seek answers, Lilah slowly realizes that even the best intentions can go horribly wrong.

The Stellow Project, by Shari Becker

From School Library Journal GR 8 UP—For Lilah Stellow, the act of breathing is often a Herculean task. As a result of her damaged lungs, her overprotective environmental scientist father has enforced climate-controlled spaces, experimental drugs, and invasive surgeries to keep her alive. But as a wild storm sweeps into New York City, even the best intentions fall flat, as everything in Lilah's perfectly ordered, safe life is swept up in the turmoil. Swoon-worthy romantic interest? Check. Secret research lab in the middle of the Adirondacks? Check. Eco-terrorism, betrayal, a crazy scene in which an SUV is almost blown off the road? Check, check, check. This speculative fiction/thriller is not only an intelligent pulse-racer, it's also a fun read. Though a read-alike for James Dashner's "The Maze Runner" series (Delacorte), its mystery and adventure are rooted in cool science. Becker keeps a riveting pace while developing a compelling backstory through flashbacks. She keeps readers engaged, but many will be frustrated by the cliff-hanger ending. Most of the characters are well drawn, complete with their foibles and unanswered questions, especially Lilah and her sister Flori. VERDICT A great addition to any dystopian collection that will appeal to fans of adventures and scientific thrillers, as well as reluctant readers. —Leighanne Law, Scriber Lake High School, WA

Review

“A pair of teenagers uncovers familial secrets after environmental terrorists wreak havoc on New York City… Lilah has a solid emotional journey, one that Becker illuminates well.” —Kirkus

“A thrilling mystery with suspenseful moments...I would recommend this to anyone of 12+ who loves a suspenseful combo of simple romance and adventure and mystery.” —YA Books Central"A relevant, modern thriller with heart, perfect for readers who don't yet know they like sci-fi. Lilah is a heroine teen readers will root for. Her resilience and maturity in the face of incredible challenges is downright inspiring. The Stellow Project is a thought-provoking read packed with romance, action, and some serious creepiness!” —Heather Demetrios, award-winning author of Something Real and Exquisite Captive

“This fast-paced story of bioterrorism, family relationships, trust, and secrets comes with a breathtaking conclusion that screams sequel.” —Booklist

The story takes place in a small suburb in New York. The writing is good, if a little predictable. I easily saw future plot points and attempts at twists. They were still twisty, and not quite what I expected, but the broad strokes were there. The teen romance was full of angst, but that was to be expected for a YA story. Since the story begins with the escape from the tornado, you would think it would be full of suspense, but the timing or the pace didn’t feel right to me. This happens through out the story: the timing seems just a little off. I think it kind of works though, since the narrator is supposed to be a YA. Many of us remember that age with the awkwardness and sometimes a feeling of confusion at the world around us.The chapter structure made for good reading, and many of the chapters ended in a cliffhanger. This book was definitely a page-turner. The story unfolded (mostly) logically with no difficult subjects of themes. The biggest problem was the ending. This is obviously meant to be a trilogy and the ending of this first book held no answers. It didn’t even have a proper ending. Now, I understand the want for a series book, but to end the story so abruptly, with no finality at all seems to be a cheap construct. I kept trying to flip to the next chapter at the end, only to realize my kindle was already at 100%.I would likely recommend this book after the entire trilogy is published, as to not frustrate the reader with an incomplete story. Over all, it’s still a three-star read. Thanks to NetGalley for this eARC.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Engaging YA Novel Grabs Adult Interest From Page One! By Can't Read Enough I don't often read YA novels, but this one totally grabbed my attention. The plot is creative and unpredictable with each twist making it so hard to put the book down. I read it in two days, neglecting my responsibilities (i.e. my children) because I was enjoying it that much. I fell in love with the characters (Lilah, Flori, Maggie, Daniel) and hated others (Dr. Ruiz) thanks to the excellent character development. The setting was rich and colorful, evoking smells (the lab), tastes (cinnamon buns) and sounds (classical music) through creative, descriptive writing. One reviewer was bothered by the cliffhanger ending, but I LOVED knowing that there is more to the story because I was nowhere near ready to say goodbye to these characters and I have so many questions. There is so much more to learn about the plot and these characters and I am right there in line for the next book. The wait will be a challenge, but no pressure, Shari!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. The Stellow Project By sarah brown The Stellow Project is a story that will keep you on your toes as you try to work out the mystery and secrecy surrounding Lilah, her sister Flori, their parents, the reasons behind Lilah's bad health and her parents past scientific experiments and projects. After a deadly storm hits Manhattan with no warning, Lilah and Flori make their way to the family's cabin where their Dad is going to meet them, but days go by and their Dad doesn't show up, while watching the news they discover that he's wanted by the FBI for eco-terrorism, to make matters worse the medication that Lilah has to take every day without fail runs out, and that's when the story really takes off.Lilah will discover things about her parents that will question everything she believed and thought she knew about them, and the reason for their Mom's disappearance years ago. While the story was intense, suspenseful, with shocks and twists throughout, I wish the ending was more explanatory than it was, it left a lot of unanswered questions and there doesn't seem to be a sequel on the horizon, although I'd be definitely be sure to pick one up if there was, I'd just like the story and the loose ends to be wrapped up more, but other than that I thoroughly enjoyed every page, reading it in one day, one of those books you don't won't to put down. All in all a great concept executed extremely well, highly recommended.
