As a university professor I have to assess papers, projects and research reports and it is often- times easy to peer into the egos and minds of my students by scrutinizing their work. I can tell when the work is done in haste, with no real effort. It is also very obvious when the students exercised extreme care and meticulousness. Also as a parent I can tell when my daughter is distracted when carrying out her chores or school assignments and I can tell when she is just totally focused. Our work reveals a lot about our character, well at least at the time it was being done. Unlike us though God does not change but remains the same and so the study of nature at any time or place should in many ways reveal something about the character of the Maker. When we study the scriptures, with the right heart and motives, we receive a periscopic view of who God is and His amazing love for us. Similarly if we examine His handiwork, with the right heart, it should also reveal to us His multidimensional imagination, His power, providence, love and dominion. The bible clearly states in Romans 1:20 that the creation speaks volumes about who God is and I believe as scientists delve deeper into the molecular basis of life, our knowledge of the endless compendium of simple yet complex manifestations that characterize the Great and Awesome God of the universe should proportionately increase. However, like the Pharisees in John 5:39 who studied the scriptures diligently yet did not know Jesus (of whom they spoke), we too can study nature and totally miss the glory of the Creator behind every atom, molecule, cell, tissue, organ and organism.
