About the Author Paddy Eger entered the world of professional writing in 2000. Her publishing credits include dozens of newspaper and magazine articles, a hundred web and education blog articles, three book awards for her nonfiction book Educating America:101 Strategies for Adult Assistants in K-8 Classrooms and praise for Educating America Desktop Flipbook.
Paddy graduated from the University of Washington and taught elementary school for more than twenty years. When Paddy taught in the PCEP, a co-op public school, she established a training program for classroom volunteers that became the foundation for her Educating America books.
After she retired from teaching she also discovered her enthusiasm for fiction writing. Paddy says, Stories come to me like an itch; they refuse to leave until I promise to scratch around for their meaning and write them down.
Her first novel ideas grew from her first love, dancing. From age three until twenty she took lessons in tap, character, jazz and ballet. She performed in recitals, area functions, musicals and for a World s Fair. When Paddy began teaching she produced original poems, dances and songs for her classroom students to encouraged free movement activities that foster student creativity. She often organized classroom and school-wide talent shows.
Her love of being raised as a small-town girl and a desire to create realistic stories where skill and steady persistence open doors for dancers became the foundation for 84 Ribbons. The story blossomed to a trilogy with the next books, When the Music Stops and Letters to Follow due for release soon.
Paddy s debut novel, 84 Ribbons, focuses on the fiercely competitive world of ballet. The YA novels follow two young women through their first years of professional dancing as they balance day-to-day life with the complex world of ballet. Paddy believes writing and dancing share several traits. Both require practice and perseverance as well as a good sense of movement and a desire to share self-expression.

Intrigued by the true story of a documented inmate imprisoned for stealing a handkerchief, the story of Ean emerged. It began as a poem, grew to a short story and evolved into the novel, Tasman. The young Irishman travels from England to the prison, wondering if he ll survive the brutality during his three-year sentence or attempt a daring escape.
To foster and train her inner writer Paddy attends numerous writing classes and writing conferences, including Write on the Sound, a conference in her hometown of Edmonds, Washington a creative, artistic and writing community along Puget Sound. She participates in two writing groups and attends area writing functions where she meets with other talented writers. Speaking about the craft of writing with groups also interests Paddy.

Chen Those of us who’ve been around for more than a couple of decades probably know that our “Plan A” doesn’t always work out. Then we’re left adrift, wondering what to do with our life. When the Music Stops tells the story of an eighteen-year-old young woman already in need of a “Plan B”.This well written YA novel is the second in a series of three. In the first book, 84 Ribbons, Marta achieves her lifelong ambition to be a professional ballet dancer. Then, during her first season with the Intermountain Ballet Company in Billings, Montana, she sustains an injury that ends her career. The opening pages of When the Music Stops find Marta at home in Bremerton, WA, living with her mother and grieving for her lost career. To make matters worse, her widowed mother now has a serious boyfriend, and Marta’s boyfriend from Montana is miles away. At the heart of this book is Marta’s search for her “Plan B.” After an understandable period of grieving, she finds the same courage, enthusiasm, and hard work that made her a dancer in the first place and puts it to work to find a new path for her life.Work isn’t everything, though, not even for a dedicated dancer. Marta’s Montana boyfriend continues to write to her, and she has a couple of admirers in Bremerton. Throughout the book she struggles to develop a mature understanding of love. The author keeps us guessing until the end to find out who she’s eventually choose. When the Music Stops is well paced. It kept my interest all the way through. I highly recommend it, especially for pre-teen and teenage girls.

At first she just hangs out around the house, most days in her robe. She still has an issue with diet pills. Steve has been a big support throughout this whole thing. He is still supportive when she makes a mistake that could ruin their relationship. Marta’s biggest issue is trying to figure out what she wants to do with her life. Before the accident she thought she had her whole life mapped out before her. Now she is so confused. What starts out as helping her mother at the dance studio, turns into so much more? Will this be what it takes for her to straighten out her life? When she meets the parent of one of her students she feels conflicted. Will she still stay with Steve, or will her life take her down a different path? At times I felt annoyed at her indecision. I think I felt that way because I am a person who has a difficult time making decisions. Once I’ve made the decision the commitment is there 110%. I know this is how Marta felt. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to those who love the world of dance or love to read about the world of dance. This book didn’t focus on Marta’s dance so much as her dance with life changes. An excellent book.I received a copy to facilitate my review. The opinions expressed here are my own.

Readers follow Marta as she continues to recover from her ankle injury and as she struggles to make tough choices about her future professionally and romantically.Marta returns home after her devastating injury. She spends much of her time in deep depression over the loss of a professional dance career. When her mom finally convinces her to visit Mrs. Holland at the dance studio, Marta discovers a brilliant opportunity awaiting her. However, she must make some difficult choices, ones that will effect the rest of her life. Will Marta uncover the happiness that has been there all along? The continuation of Marta's life after professional ballet is a heartwarming story of self discovery and personal growth that ultimately leads to a fulfilling life full of new hopes and dreams. When the Music Stops: Dance On is a wonderful sequel to the author's first book, 84 Ribbons. I greatly enjoyed Marta's story as she experienced the ups and downs of growing up and rejoiced when she blossomed into a confident young woman with a bright future. The array of characters are complex and well developed and the writing flows gracefully across the pages easily captivating readers.I highly recommend picking up a copy.
