By Karli **Copy received in return for an honest review**In Embrace the Hunt, Book 8 of the Blood Rose Series, a slave helped Regan, The Ruby Fae, escape the fortress tower where she was being held by The Ancient Fae, Margetta. This novella is the slave Sandra' s story, Book 8.1 in the series, and it is also one of the best books in the series.Sandra has been a personal slave to Margetta for thirty years and has befriended Mastyr Vampire Griffin, who was captured and enslaved to train Margetta's army at her shielded fortress a year earlier. When Sandra tells Griffin she plans to free Regan, The Ruby Fae, from the fortress' tower, he protests, fearing for her safety if she is discovered. But events unfold quickly as Griffin and Sandra realize their relationship has gone beyond friendship at the same time Margetta announces her intent to bond Sandra with a powerful wraith. Sandra knows it is her destiny to free Regan, but she will need help to escape her own captivity and an Invictus bond over which she will have no control.

I had been so curious about the woman who helped Regan escape the evil Margetta's fortress and to get this insight into the inner workings of the Ancient Fae and those who serve her really brings this world even more to life. These paranormal romances may be quite short but each one packs an incredible punch and this delightful addition is no exception.Poor Sandra she's a beautiful Fae who watched her family get slaughtered thirty years ago only to discover that she is the reason for it. Thoroughly vile Margetta surrounds herself with beauty and deliberately sent her vicious Invictus to capture Sandra. Now a slave in Margetta's fortress Sandra has risen through the ranks and occupies a position of trust but yearns for freedom and is willing to do anything to help save the Nine Realms from tyranny.Griffin may have only been held captive for one year but the Mastyr Vampire has witnessed at first hand the atrocities that occur within the fortress walls. He longs for true death but the enticing Sandra and her kindness has helped to keep him sane and whole. When he learns she fully intends to help free the captive Regan he is naturally concerned about the consequences Sandra could face . His worry turns to something more and he begins to realise that his feelings towards Sandra are much deeper than mere friendship.I loved this story as it addressed something I had questions about and it was fabulous to read about a Guardsman who for once didn't control one of the Nine Realms. Without a doubt for me the star of the story is Sandra and she's a confident and brave woman. What really made me smile was her sheer unabashed delight when she finally got her hands on Griffin and boy was he gob snacked! It was such fun to introduce humour and not just heat into what becomes a very passionate relationship . As for Griffin, he's a noble sort who though hesitant at first quickly begins to take charge but this did feel like a partnership and not a dictatorship and I loved that about this couple. This series just keeps getting better and I will frankly be sad when it's overI was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review
